Don't assume your DH cannot improve the diabetes. My mother is now off insulin after years of using the needle. She is on metformin, but no shots. Getting rid of body fat can make this difference.

She has much more freedom now and can choose not to eat etc. Before she had to eat because she had taken the shot etc. Now she can have a light snack only etc. If she wants to sleep in on sat. and have brunch instead of breakfast and lunch she can, with the shots, things would go haywire. It may seem silly, but little things like this mean having your life back.

I know he can improve it - IF he changes his lifestyle but he can't reverse the damage that has been done short of a God given miracle no matter how hard he tries. At this point, all he can do is hope to slow down the progression

I went with my "friend" to the weight loss surgery informational meeting last night and she is really interested in having it. The surgeon who was there to talk was not the one who did mine in 2007 but is one of his partners. He was very interesting and funny so that put her at ease. He described the 3 types offered by their office and went on to say he does not think the lapband is a good choice. My friend has already decided she wants gastic bypass because she knows how I have done and thinks that is what she would do best with. She is almost the same size I was in 2007 so she is more than 100 pounds overweight so she should qualify with her insurance. I really hope so. She is working on getting healthy and I am hoping I can support her efforts. While we were in the meeting the doctor mentioned something about dumping and people were asking questions and seemed worried about it. My friend knows my experiences with dumping and whispered to me to speak up and say something. The doctor noticed and pointed at me as if had raised my hand. So I told him I had surgery in Oct. of 2007 and only had dumping if I ate too much sugar or pasta and that I had only thrown up about 5 or 6 times since surgery. He said, "You look great!" I said, "Thank you. I feel great and my blood pressure is great now too." I felt so strange being one of the "regular size" people there. I remember my first meeting and how bad I felt then. I am praying for my friend to get to the place I am now and feel healthy and good about herself. Her husband is very supportive like mine is and will help her through everything. I am going to start walking with her as soon as she feels like she is ready. Right now she says using her treadmill is better for her. I think being there for her is going to keep me motivated and inspired!

I am still hanging at 167 but saw 166 on Sunday. That was nice. I keep trucking along and having my "friend" wanting to lose weight is helping me. I found some nice things at Goodwill this weekend and really lucked up on one thing, brand new black dress pants with the tags and extra buttons still attached. Love my Goodwill store!

Anybody trying a new food or exercise? I have not been walking a lot lately. I have been extra busy though and my weight is still dropping slowly. I am now at 164. I feel good and continue to eat around 1200 calories a day. Did anyone see the formula on Dr. Oz about how many calories a day you should eat to lose weight? It was interesting but if you ate all your calories in junk food I don't see how it would work. He said to take your current weight and multiply it by 12. If you eat less calories a day than the number you got when you multiplied, you will lose. My number was over 1900 calories. I don't know how they got this formula but I thought it was interesting. I hope everyone has a great day!

Between the wedding Sunday, having my grandbabies overnight, co-op registration, and Rachael moving in to her new apartment an hour away, we've had a busy week! Plus both my mil and my aunt has serious health issues. We only live about two miles from my mil, so we've been going over there each evening and morning to help her up/down the stairs and into bed. One of the kids have been staying there most nights, but that's stopping because of school starting on Monday. We did catch Carl's brother there yesterday, and had the opportunity to talk some things out, which was very helpful.

But all that's to say everything else has been put on hold! I hope to start a regular routine with school/exercising on Monday!

My daughter bought me a jar of something called PB2. She loves it. It is a powder that you mix with water and it makes a low calorie peanut butter. Or so she says. I think I will try it tomorrow.

I have been at 163 for the last three days and I THINK that puts me at a normal BMI. I am going to check and see. So pleased!

Well I still am not in the normal BMI range but I am close. Helping my friend get ready for weight loss surgery has really motivated me. I am down again today. I was at 161 this morning! My doctor was very impressed when I went in for my check up yesterday. Still not drinking enough water but I am STILL working on it. My new secret weapon is a hula hoop. Not the kind we had as kids, but a larger one that weighs more. My daughter bought one at the Earth Bound store and left it here for us to use. It is so much fun! I never could hula hoop before but I can with this thing and it is so cool. I can really feel it too. I am not sore but I do feel muscles I had not felt in a while. Emily is great with it. She wants to use it every evening and tone up some. Still plugging along on my journey to get healthy! I feel so in control right now of this one tiny area in my life and that sort of empowers me to try harder on other areas. I hope that makes sense!

Okay ladies, I'm back on the weight loss bandwagon! For the simple fact that I now have high blood pressure!

I'm using MyFitnessPal if anyone is on there, I'd love to be friends, I can use all the encouragement and motivation I can get! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/sonitalewis

Tracking my food, counting calories and working on getting more active! My goal is to lose 30 lbs by the time we get our tax refund (I'm using March 15th for that date/goal). That's like 1.1 lbs/week and my calorie count is set up for 1.5/lb loss per week so I think my goal is doable...

My neighbor uses that, and I did go there, but tracking food was difficult for me. The first thing I eat every morning is a smoothie, but I make my own and don't know how to put it in. I mean, I add about "this much" juice (depending on what kind we have on hand; this week it's mostly orange juice), a big spoonful each of yogurt and cottage cheese, a handful of frozen berries (again, depending on what we have...mostly strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries), maybe pineapple (if we have some, like today), NEVER banana (I don't like them!!!), maybe a handful of dried cranberries, and usually a sprinkling of flax seed. Oh, and a handful of Sesame Sticks when I have them. I've stopped adding crushed ice, because it makes it too thick.

So HOW do I put that in the computer?

(But I'm very glad it's working for you! It's REALLY helped my neighbor!)

Jackie-right now I'm measuring everything. Like when I make a smoothie later this week, I'll measure each ingredient I add it in.

Also, if you make a "typical" smoothie, like say you make a strawberry banana smoothie 3 days a week, you can add in a recipe, for how you make it.

Honestly, if I didn't have an app for my phone, I probably wouldn't use it. Being able to scan bar codes is so quick for adding calories into the diary.

But, it's working, apparently, I lost 2 pounds last week! :)

I have been using My Fitness Pal since the end of Feb. I love using it andw the bar code scanner is so helpful. I don't leave anything out. I track my water and everything I eat even if I go over. I am doing 1200calories a day. I track my walking and any other exercise I do. My daughter is the one who showed me how to use MFP and I really am glad she did. I am back at 162 and am starting to think that is my number. I am not giving up yet though. I really want to go lower. Size 12s are nice but I still want my BMI to be normal.

I've lost 2 more pounds! YAY!

MFP is the key for me I think. Logging it (admitting I ate it, and that much of it, as I'm an emotional eater) is really making me think before I put something in my mouth or eat because I am bored, sad, scared, happy, whatever...

I have to completely agree. The last round of losing weight, I logged everything (I used my Fitbit app). It really helps to make you stop and think whether you are eating because you are hungry, or just eating. Also, the choices and amounts. So, yes, I like cheese on my salad, but 1 tablespoon may curb that desire instead of putting the full handful that I would normally use. It really makes you stop and think about what is going into your body. Same with drinks, water is a freebie (actually a positive in getting to log more water) instead of having to log x amount of calories for a soda.
