I am in Christmas planning mode and as I try to figure what to buy different people I keep thinking about Groupon. I have used them with our household and was blessed by the savings.

Would it be rude, or otherwise inappropriate to give a groupon as a gift or g=as part of a gift at Christmas time??

I don't think it would be rude. Give something a person will like/use. If you can give it at a bargain, so much the better.

I like the idea. We are not big gift givers anymore, but unless it is for a small child, I try to give something the family can use.

I think it would be fine! I think you can even buy generic gift certificates TO Groupon if you aren't sure what someone would like.

Ok thank you ladies. I wasn't sure. I do feel better about it now and I had no idea that you could buy groupon GCs- very cool!

I bought one for my niece one year. It was for a cooking class that I knew she would love. Unfortunately, the company went out of business before it was used, but we were able to get back the amount used to purchase it. I say go for it if it is something you know they would use.

I also got Rachel one for Vertical Adventures, a climbing wall in central Ohio. Rachael was THRILLED!

I suppose if you could get something a person really wanted this way it would be a gift.

But if you gave me a 25 dollar gift cert. to use on a groupon offer, and if I do not usually use groupon's website, you have created a hassel.

I think it depends on the recipient.

    Agreed.

Also, have you used Groupon successfully yourself? I have done Groupon offers several times and each time, there was something screwy with it. The horseback riding lesson was at a DUMP stable in the middle of nowhere (even though the place's website showed beautiful pics, they must have been old pics), restauant went out of business, one wouldn't accept after all. I quit buying them because they were such a hassle.

A Gift certificate would be great idea, though. Maybe try Costco for some discounted gift cards. The movies are good ones.
