I will get two when they're B1G1, and cook them together in my electric roaster. I might slice one and shred the other, or shred them both. One will be frozen. The other we have as sandwiches, and then any leftovers I usually put with gravy and serve over potatoes.
Use cheap pasta sauce to make a gourmet meal. I can usually find the "no sugar added" Hunts sauce for $.88 a can, but the taste/texture leaves much to be desired. Try this.... Brown garlic (and onions, if they float your boat) in EEOO. Add meat of your choice (or none). Once it's cooked or browned, stir in the sauce, a heaping tablespoon of tomato paste, and Italian Seasoning to taste. *poof* better sauce. EVEN BETTER sauce... Use sliced Adoulli sausage for the meat (Johnsonville brand is usually inexpensive). Then... the coupe de gras... add 1/2 a brick of cream cheese. I like to serve the "even better sauce" over cheese tortellini.
I'm going to try this! I usually mix half spaghetti sauce and half alfredo sauce for tortellini or ravioli. This will be easier! I also add to the cheap spaghetti sauce, but I add diced tomatoes and Italian seasoning.
It never occurred me to add anything but meat (I prefer Italian sausage, but DH likes just plain hamburger) to cheap sauce!
Last night's winner (the boys are already asking for it again): Fauxlet Mignon Mix 2 lbs of ground beef, 2 eggs, bread crumbs (um... about 1/4 cup?), and seasoning (I used a healthy dose of Worcester and Italian Seasoning). Form into thick patties. Wrap each patty with a slice of bacon, securing the ends with a toothpick. Bake at 450 for 20 minutes. If you have parchment paper, line your pan with it to absorb some of the grease. I made the patties before I went to work, wrapped the whole pan in Seran Wrap, and stuck it in the fridge. DH just had to pop it in the oven and steam the veggies I prepped.
WOW guys you have many interesting recipes and I like many from them. thanks for sharing your favorite dinner recipes.
I get excited over pot roast! I toss it in my crockpot after searing it with some Worcestershire sauce, salt/pepper, and beef broth. Cook it on low for 7 or 8 hours. Since I've sworn off white potatoes and starches, I make cauliflower mashies. I steam the cauliflower, then put it in the food processor with a bit of butter and milk. Love it! I make some gravy from the leftovers in the crockpot using nothing but Xanthan gum. Wonderfully healthy, easy, supper!!
chicken ala "queen" - wholesome and yummy chicken ala "Queen" Cook however many boneless breasts you need to feed your family. I usually boil my chicken in broth till tender and juicy. Cool a bit and cube chicken. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in saucepot. Add 1/4 cup of flour and stir. Slowly add 2 cups of chicken broth (you can use the broth you cooked chicken in if flavorful or simply use canned). Stir till thickened. Add two cups of milk, and stir till mixture is creamy in texture. At this point you can add any of your favs - mushrooms and pimentos (roasted red pepper bites) are mine. Other vegetables work well too. Add cooked chicken and simmer 10 minutes or until additions are cooked through. While you are making sauce - boil egg noodles. Serve creamy chicken goodness over noodles and enjoy. I like to sprinkle a little parmesan on the top. Not as fattening as alfredo (I use 2%) milk, but still creamy and delicious. I love to serve buttermilk biscuits and corn with this recipe to round it out.
