http://www.theeducationalfreedomcoalition.org/ Some are explicitly aligned, some are correlated, some are and intend to remain independent... find out on this list!
Looks like Shurley English is the only one we use that's aligned, but the note says the homeschool version isn't. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for any changes to the content over the coming years.
Very cool! I like that it also lists standardized tests. The only thing we use that's aligned is IXL for extra math practice. It's not our primary math curriculum, though.
Interesting. All of our choices are IND or COR - COR doesn't scare me too much b/c it sounds like it's coincidence more than anything. Scary stuff.
The only thing I use that is aligned is Wordly Wise 3000 but I really like the way the program is set up. I do not think all aspects of common core are bad (although some are not realistic). I also think that given time it will fade away as do all new trends in teaching. Once this does not work and there is too much back lash (which is already happening) it will fall apart. If you study the history of education this is a common theme, the only difference is that they are trying to do it on a national level (which I think means it will fall apart faster than some of the other trends).
Wow, lots of work went into that list. I'm surprised that this has become such a big issue with many. I just pick the things that I think will work with my kids. I don't care if it is aligned with anything.
It's become a big issue because of the possibility that homeschooling in the US will be affected by the standards-either through testing required for college entry or harsh homeschool regulations.
I agree Embassy. I never used a formal curriculum. Never bought a text book. I pretty much just did what worked, and enjoyed the natural love of learning and let it lead us. (I was an UnSchooler) When my daughter joined public school in eighth grade, she tested very high. Musta done something right. LOL. I think the important thing is to try to hit the main areas in elementary...READING, basic math, and if you want to, science and history. I think the most important thing, the skill that must become a passion....is reading. If you can read well, you can teach yourself anything
It doesn't matter to me if our stuff is aligned either...but I do think it's great to see this long list...some stuff I haven't heard of before.
