Are you cooking today in preparation for Thanksgiving?

Today I'm making cornbread then magically turning it into cornbread dressing, potato salad, deviled eggs, green bean casserole and chocolate eclair cake.

Tomorrow I'll pop the turkey, the dressing, the green bean casserole, in the oven and make the gravies (yes, two), heat the frozen corn and make homemade rolls (the only thing that will take any time tomorrow).

What about you? Are getting ready today?

Nope! We're going to my daughter's this afternoon (over an hour's drive), and will spend the night and be there for Turkey Day. We may even spend another night, and babysit the DGD while they go to work - she's been with us since Sunday evening. But we'll have to work out how to get DGS back in time for him to go with the Cubs on an outing for those who sold popcorn, which is Saturday evening. He's with his mom and dad, an hour away in the opposite direction.

Yes and no. I made two pies last night to take to my bill's tomorrow. Carl is making a turkey that will be taken to Columbus' "Short North" to help feed the neighborhood/homeless people down there. Rachael and her sweetie are due in any minute now, and so I baked bread for dinner to go with homemade soup.

yes, but not for Thanksgiving, as I'm not American.

Hoping to fill up my freezer with a couple of dishes (like lasagne and stew) Got this lovely vegan slow cooker dish I'm keen to try.

I did some pies, cranberry salad, "cottage cheese stuff,*" and rolls to bake tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll do the asparagus and a turnip dish right before I leave for my MILs. I did the "annual tradition" dishes as well as tried a few new recipes for the fun of it. This year I made the "pumpkin" pies out of Cushaw Squash. I'm from the south, so I should have known about Cushaws, but I saw one for the first time ever at a farm stand behind our house. I had to try it; it looked like a crooked neck watermelon! Plus, I got enough "meat" out of one to make about 8 pies, and it only cost $2. I like that!

    Happy cooking and happy Thanksgiving!

*Cottage cheese "stuff" is my mother's recipe for an appetizer. It's just cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, olives and a little may mixed together. It's served on celery or crackers. It sounds weird, but it's delicious!

Weeelll, originally I was supposed to bake my pies tonight, but we ended up celebrating the first day of Hanukkah instead. It took longer than I expected and I got tired. Now I have to get up early and bake pies in the morning before I put in the turkey. It is just going to be the four of us, and we can eat whenever, so it's not a big deal.

We also decided we don't need both apple and pumpkin pies, so I will probably just make one. :p

I made a big batch of homemade seitan/gluten steaks, we are vegetarian so no turkey here. Everything else is going to wait for tomorrow. There are only 6 of us, Hubby, boys, me and my parents and we aren't going crazy with food this year.

Okay, I'm not a cheese eater, but I do often make cheese appetizers because I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't like cheese, this sounds so easy and I usually have all those things on hand-recipe please!

Just 6 of us here too. My family of 4 and my parents. I'd just as soon not do Thanksgiving, but my mom loves traditional tradition. Since she's not physically able to anymore, I'm handling and hosting it this year. I long for the day we can go out to eat Thanksgiving night!

WELL.... My bil is on house arrest (long story!), so we had Thanksgiving at his place. His wife's entire family came up from Cincinnati. I made two pies, one apple and one peach. My (other) sil always makes a cream cheese pumpkin pie. Well, my sil's brother bought three other fruit pies, and someone else brought a BIG bowl of Death by Chocolate. So I came home with a complete apple pie, and only two pieces of the peach were eaten. I hate when that happens!!! The last thing I want is more than a piece or two around this house!

I'm fine with the pumpkin. But my two, plus Lisa's one pumpkin would have been enough....

We'll probably have chicken pieces, with veg. and tortillas. Shouldn't take long to make tonight.

It is easy. I'm afraid I eyeball it and don't have exact measurements, but I don't think you can do it wrong...you just make it your own.

1 large carton cottage cheese (I like small curd. 24 oz container)
1 jar of small green pimento stuffed olives, drained (8-10 oz) (I can't find small ones usually so I just cut the regular ones in half. You could experiment with chopping them up even finer or using the sliced ones.)
    8oz. shredded sharp cheddar
Mayo -- I'm guessing that I use about 1/4 cup. It's just enough to bind the ingredients together. You shouldn't taste it in the mix.

That's it. I scoop it up with celery. My husband eats it on crackers. I hope you like it!
