    Hi everyone-
It's been a while since I have been here. I put my children in public school and my daughter is doing fantastic. Phew, thank God.....
My son on the other hand is doing horrible,
He has an extensive IEP because he is:
    Learning disabled
    ADD and ADHD combined
    Mood disorder
    Defiant

That being said, he spends more time in detention, suspensions and being pick on than anything else. I cringe every single time the phone rings.

I got a phone call tonight from another parent letting me know of my child's behavior and if her child goes to administration my son will be suspended yet again. By all means he should! But, it still exhausting!

To add insult to injury he has failed math the first quarter. It use to be his strong point until the core curriculum went into affect. Now he is getting ready to finish the second quarter and he has a 58% in English and around a 60% in math.

After a heated discussion tonight regarding his behavior at school. I literally took a phone call from a friend of mine in the closet to have her pray with me, when I came out my son told me he wants to come back home. Which I have been trying to convince him to do for months and then out of my mouth came NO. yeah, I know, I surprised myself......

Here is the direction I need before I can bring him home.
    1. Pray my husband is on board teaching math and science.
    2. We have used BJU in the past and I feel like I need a change. I did use Oak Meadow for a while but I gave it up because there isn't a answer key and sometime I don't have the ability to research for the answers. I loved it but I work 35 hours a week outside the home. So I need something that can be set and ready for me and I can just be the administrator. Oh, btw, 8th grader
Suggestions on how to balance between these two products or other recommendations would be fantastic.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thank you Sommer you are the best and you understand, he just said to me I'm. It sure I want to come home. I think I will start collecting things and get ready but I can't bring him home unless he really wants it.

No real suggestions as mine are younger than that but I just wanted send hugs and say it's great to see a post from you. I remember how active you use to be on the spot. Praying God shows you very clearly where he wants you to go.

    Hi there! >waving<
I usually suggest Christian Light Education, expecially for reading, math, and LA. It's very independent. There ARE answer keys! www.clp.org

I don't have any suggestions curriculum wise, but I homeschooled my adhd/bipolar son all the way through high school, and it was a nightmare. Having a child like this is so difficult, but to be around them 24/7 is exhausting. I am sure I don't need to tell you to make sure you take care of yourself by getting some time alone, etc. I am suffering depression and anxiety because I didn't take care of myself well enough. If I had to do it again, I would probably put him in school, but the results probably the same. My son is still a mess; unmedicated now since he is an adult. Blames us for everything including homeschooling him. Please take care. I will pray for you. I know how hard special needs kids are.

Have you considered a cyber-school of some kind? I don't know if it would be what you want, but it might be an option. That way you can 'just administer". Down side is that you have to follow THEIR schedule.

Well, let's see if I can answer all the questions.

He did attend school. When I got out of work I went into the school office and said I am not leaving until I talk to the principle. She came out and I said my child did something yesterday in school and he needs to tell you about it. So she called him down and my son told her. Then we had to leave because he a dr appt for asthma. We returned to school today and she told him that his punishment would be a 5 school day suspension. In my opinion is harsh but I guess she is the rule maker. So, he had to meet with a tutor today for and 1 1/2 at the high school, and he will continue to do so until his suspension is over. At home he is writing every bible verse I can find on obey your parents along with house work.

I have come to a conclusion that he will not come home unless he really begs me, he needs to learn there is consiquences for his actions and I refuse to budge on that.

I have not looked into cyber schools and that I will do - thank you for the idea
I will also check into CLE

Please keep us in your prayers during this transition time

You know, when Garrett went back, the first 2 years (this is only his third year back) he was in trouble all.the.time. It got to the point where he was labeled the problem kid by the teachers and they nit picked him to death. The kids too, they were horrible to him and I'm sure he wasn't the nicest kid to them. I really struggled with bringing him home... I wanted to rescue him, I'm a mom, it's my job, blah blah blah.

I had to have a deep conversation with myself.... he made that bed by not putting in any effort at home. He could have started all fresh and made teachers and other students love him... HE CHOSE not to. I had to wipe my hands of it. Finally after about the 10th call of his 8th grade year (his 2nd year back... in 7th grade I'm sure they called on a weekly basis to complain about him), I told all of his teachers during a conference call that HE had to be responsible for his actions, NOT ME! Don't call me again unless he is staying after school and needs picked up... you discipline him there, that is your job, mine is to tend to his home antics and that is what I am worrying about from now on.

The calls did stop, they did call to tell me he would have an after school once, but other than that they took up their beef with him and he had to be accountable for it. He isn't a baby anymore.
