You know it's the winter blues when... You start googling prices for that private school around the corner...just to see. You renew your cable or netflix subscription even though you said you wouldn't You contemplate dumping all your curriculum and starting something completely new... unschooling anyone? What do you do to combat the blues? It seems that this time of year many of us start to wonder if we are doing the right thing, or if our kids will meet those goals this year. I'm expected to be signing my DD up for kindergarten this month, and it's made me wonder if we are still doing the right thing to homeschool them. We're going to stick it out another year for sure, but I really do have to fight the blues this time of year. I've started trying to get out for a jog 3x per week. On Sunday I even signed up for a 5 km race. It feels good to do something for me!
I changed a lot of school stuff up over our Christmas break. I feel better about things than I have in a long time! I think this is the first year where I may not get too bad with the winter doldrums.
I wrote a series of posts on Getting a handle on homeschool burnout. http://rest-for-the-weary.blogspot.com/p/getting-handle-on-homeschooling-burnout.html. Maybe something would help?
I usually don't do well around Christmas. But getting back to schooling in January gets me back to "normal" (whatever that is!). If you know it's just the winter blues, maybe school lighter while doing some "you" stuff, then go back to "normal" when your seasonal mood improves?
I usually have the blues whenever a holiday season gets over. But there's something about January that means a fresh start and the magic of possibilities!
