I am working on an article for homeschoolinghelp and would love some input from you ladies. What is the biggest difficulty you struggle with in homeschooling (I know there are always more than one, but the biggest?) Stress, scheduling, a hyperactive child, legal/school district issues, curriculum struggles.... what is it that you feel is the hardest part? My article is to be upbeat and provide suggestions (if possible!) Thank you!!! Janice
Not yet, but I am considering it for my son who has Aspberger's. He is in 7th grade and beginning to struggle with social issues and getting made fun of frequently. His academics are excellent. He is just socially waayyy behind his age group. I have an older daughter who is a social butterfly, and wouldn't consider it. Two younger children who probably would, but my fears are patience and the money issues. I have been looking at sites and thinking about things, and gathering information. I also am a freelance writer who does some work for a homeschooling group, which is why I initially came to this board. But it has sparked many ideas for my own family, personally. Jan (I have no idea how to do a signature that reflects this information. )
Judging by the things we gripe about on here...I'd say outside negativity from family, friends and even strangers is the biggest issue. No one questions me, because I'm kind of mean, but those mothers who are nicer and more approachable get any number of inappropriate comments and unsolicited input on their choice to homeschool. Do a search on this forum for "bean dip" because that is the solution which is always offered to this common dilemma. You can search the forum with the "search" menu between "new posts" and "Quick links." (I often forget this and use the box in the upper right of my screen and end up with a www search rather than a narrow homeschoolspot-only search.)
I don't know. We seem to have the same stuggles that all families generally have; public, private or home school! Specifically to homeschooling, I would have to say just getting started was the hardest thing. Now it is just our way of life and I don't consider any struggles we have as being "homeschool" problems! Just life issues that we deal with and move on.
