Lindina...sorry to hear all of this, it must be really fustrating! I hope you don't have any problems with your pipes tonight!!! We aren't used to the cold weather hear in south Louisiana!!!
Thanks, Mousketeer. When DH heard it would be cold on Monday and colder on Tuesday, he went out and wrapped the outdoor pipes with foam and Styrofoam and newspaper and put buckets over them... the ones under the house don't freeze. So we're good on that point. Actually, I cancelled school today because it's just too danged cold to go do school with no kero for heat... It's a gorgeous sunshiny day this afternoon, however. I may let DGS go out to play after he finishes the work we brought home. Still haven't heard from the girls' mom or grandma... Don't know why both their phones were turned off yesterday. I could go by the house, but not sure I want to today. If they're going to show up, I'll have to buy toner for the printer so I can make worksheets for the kindergartener at least. If they do show up, I've decided I'm just going to have the 12yo do the units I had prepared for the SN4g on the continents (from schoolexpress.com and edhelper.com), and have her finish his first grade math workbooks.
Goodness. You have your work cut out for you!! Hopefully they will return and you can help those poor kids get a decent education.
The girls' mom finally called and said they'd been sick. Also heard from somebody at church that they've been sick. DGS is home sick too. I guess it's going around. Today only the 10th grader and I showed up. She finished her literature, and we discussed it, and I took her home. She can do her English and math at home where it's comfortable... and I can be at the library!
No, they haven't bailed, but they haven't given me ANY money either. Still can't buy kero, or toner for the printer. Had a talk with the mom. Dad keeps job hunting, but so far, nothing. (Or maybe something but they're just not paying me.) I've told her that I'm having to use only things I have on hand, because I can't order anything new or make/print any worksheets, and apparently she's fine with that. ... :/ They have family "stuff" going on, too, between this family and her mother and her sister who has charge over all mom's business (her mother is really non compos mentis...) [[did I spell that right??]]
The two girls didn't show up yesterday (maybe they thought we were taking the day off for MLK Day) or today. But DH got a call for help yesterday evening... the girls' dad's truck broke down about 5 miles up the road, so he needed a ride home. I can't teach 'em if they're not there. DGS and the 10th grader sure get a lot more work done when they're the only two at school! (We're at the library today -- it's warmer.)
Supposedly they do, but this family has never had perfect attendance anywhere. Yesterday, I didn't know what time of day the electricity would get back on, so we were here at the library once more. Tried calling the girls' mom to let her know. I haven't heard peep out of her for like two weeks. She hasn't answered calls or texts for like two weeks. Finally I gave up and called her mom and found out that mom, dad, and both girls moved to Houston on Friday. Apparently, there was a job offer. You'd think she could have called or something, to let me know, right? I'm not really that torn up about it (can u tell?). Life is so much simpler when we have only the 10th grader and DGS!!! It saves me the trouble of having to have "the talk" with the mom -- you know, the one where I tell her that two months with no pay isn't working for me. If they would have paid, we could have paid the electric bill, bought kerosene for the heater, and bought toner to make worksheets with.
What!? Unbelievable! I hope the girls get some kind of decent education in TX (but it seems unlikely).
