I just heard about Studies Weekly at *that other board* . I'm always amazed at how many things I have never heard of before...and now I am bummed that I haven't been using these for the past 4 years! I feel I'm always the last to know everything. Did you know about these?? If so...why didn't you tell me?! Anyway, I think they look awesome. Too bad they don't go beyond 6th grade.

Put in your state and grade to see what's available. I'm going to get 5th grade Science, Social Studies, and Health for next year. Not sure yet if I'd get their Character or Heritage. I see my state, WI, has 2 different Social Studies options (I randomly put in other states and all the states I tried don't have 2 Social Studies options for 5th, I wonder why WI does?). Plus if I look at 4th grade there's a WI Studies Weekly that looks really good. The random states I put in will have their state study usually in 4th, some in 5th...so, you have to poke around a bit in your state and the different grade levels.

Sommer, I especially thought of you when I saw these. I wonder if you'd like the PA ones?

ETA: I'm definitely going to get the WI Social Studies one too, even though it's 4th and when I get it she'll be in 5th. Just looks too good to pass up.

Yay Minthia! Oh, I forgot...we don't have to keep whispering. Yay Minthia! I'm not the last one to know about this one!

Seriously though, I'd love to hear what you think of it. I was pretty excited all morning about this new discovery. Funny how these things can give such a thrill.

lol... do you know how weird we are????

Minthia you better stay away from this cave woman... she is a bit cray cray  She will make you do unthinkable things.... or way is that me I'm talking about?

Seriously though, I could completely see these being your full science or social studies curriculum for the year! I think the reason I haven't ordered is because I haven't figured out just which ones I want to order to make the bulk discount. My kids even enjoyed them when we went through the sample pack they sent.

    Yes. I do.

And, yes...you are talking about yourself (except for the cave woman part...that would be me).

What do you mean "to make the bulk discount"? Don't you just order at the price of 1-9? I e-mailed them a bunch of questions yesterday, including clarifying how the pricing goes (do you get 1 of each Studies Weekly? do you get 9 of each? do you pay $8.48 per Social Studies / Science just once? or do you pay that for each quarter?). I really bombarded them with a lot of questions, . I hope I'll hear back from them tomorrow (that is, if they are on the ball and answer e-mails quickly).

yes... but the price is WAY cheaper if you get 10 or more, and they don't have to be the same ones or the same kind!

The price is for the whole year for one copy... if you had a class of 30 kids you would order 30 copies.

These are some of the same questions I have too. Specifically what does one copy at $8.48 include? Is that per week? Per month?

Edited: So I have been looking at the Studies Weekly site, and also reading on their Facebook page. I'm pretty sure the price is for the entire year. UNBELIEVABLE! My daughter is in 3rd grade now, so I ordered 4th grade Social Studies and Science as well as the weekly heritage studies. I also got the 3rd grade Social Studies because it is all about South Carolina State history. We take classes at the State museum which touches on SC history, but I really liked what I saw here. So I bought it too. I figure I can use these as a supplement to our regular curriculum.

Now please... NO MORE new curriculum that I just have to have! :)

So I checked them out and I realized that when my ds was in school they used these and he LOVED them! In fact he saved all of them from 5th grade, YAY! The price is for the whole set for each subject. I think I am going to order the 4th grade social studies set because it teaches about our state. Since we are not native to here it would be nice to know about the state. The character studies are really awesome too. My son saved some of them and they are really fun for my kids to read.

Sommer - if I were to stay away from crazy people I would have to abandon my dh and kids. :)

I'm glad you like them too. I didn't even think about seeing if they had a facebook page. I'll check that out too.

Wow...I think I could easily pick 10 to get the cheaper price....because even the younger levels (3rd, and 4th) the reading isn't too easy or "babyish" for my kid.

Health is shorter, only 6 weeks. I'm going to back track a bit and order 3rd, 4th, and 5th health (4th grade had a section on epi-pens, so dd will love that). To me, the reading level doesn't seem a whole lot different in the 3rd - 6th...so dd won't mind us reading 3rd and 4th health in 5th grade. I'll either do 5th that year too, or save it to use with 6th the next year (yes, I'm a planner  ).

I'm glad to hear how well your son liked these. Good to hear about the Character Studies too...I wasn't sure about them. I might just have to get that too (I believe those aren't different for each grade level....they must have just one and offer it for various grades...same with Heritage. At least according to the samples. That's another one of my questions I asked them ;)).

I do believe they are new for each year too. Most likely they repeat a lot but have some new things thrown in them as well as removing something. That is just a guess of course, but it seems that is the case.
