    Hello everyone,

I am new here and new to homeschooling! I started homeschooling my almost 6 year old daughter this week. It was a very sudden decision to remove her from public school, so I am completely lost! We have a few workbooks but I am dissatisfied with them.

My question is there a full curriculum or all in one on the iPad? If not, what are the best apps to use for each subject? I don't mind purchasing them, I just don't want to purchase one and it not be good. So would like opinion before I do. There are just so many! :D

Subjects would be Math, Science, Social Studies, Literature, Phonics, Art.
    Am I missing any?

    Thank you in Advance!

Why would you want it on an IPad? With a 6yo, she's going to need YOU sitting down with her. YOU need to be her teacher, not the IPad. So much of what she should be learning at this age comes from DOING, or reading good books.

There are some "boxed" curriculum you can get for the computer, though I'm not sure about the IPad. I personally don't like boxed curriculum, so I'm not the one to advise you on that. But that's just me. There's nothing "wrong" with using one. Many others on here do, and I'm sure they can give you excellent suggestions.

Good luck with your homeschooling journey!

I personally would not use an ipad or computer curriculum for that age. I'm very big on hands-on learning and read-alouds in the early years. You will have to be a very active part of her learning.

I agree with the above posts. Even if you find a complete curriculum on the iPad, I think using it will backfire. While kids do learn a lot using such devices (tablets, smart phones, computers), it's not the primary way they (the kids) are "set up" to learn at this age. She'll learn a lot more, a lot faster with pencil, paper, crayons, reading, listening (this takes work ;) ) and doing. Garden (or take care of a potted plant). Grow plants from cuttings from produce from the grocery store. Sing songs. Do crafts or (something I wish I'd done when my children were her age) take a hands-on art class together.

In first grade, and just a little bit of second, I did like using the thick workbooks you could get at Sam's club or Costco. I don't know how useful they are with the emergence of Common Core standards. I will also say I found them to be less helpful and even less available past second grade.

I don't know whether this is any good or not. I literally just downloaded it a few days ago, and only as "something fun" for my kids to do other than Angry Birds when we're busy or in the car. I prefer a real "curriculum" with books and projects, but I also see the benefit of using technology for part of a child's learning... even at 6.

The school our grandboy goes to uses mobymax. They ask the kids to use it at home (if they can) for extra practice in math especially. I think the teacher in Oz's class tries to give them time to work on it at school too. Oz doesn't really like it, but that is just him!

Now, something that gives "extra practice" is different! The kids love to play computer games, and if those games reinforce math or reading skills, I'm all for it!
