when we went to Illinois my girls and I went to this really fun fund raiser for the kids camp at the church the lady we stayed with goes to (her church not the camp) ...... any way it was a trivia night and it was so much fun they brought in so much money with under 60 people there! here is what was:

$10 per player (they had 6 tables with 6 players each)
food with various prices (a hot dog with a bag of chips and a can of soda was $3)..... but they also had pieces of cake and bags of home made cookies and coffee for sale.--- people went back several times to get drinks and snacks
there were 10 rounds with 10 questions (plus some bonus questions occasionally) before each round tables were given the option to buy "mulligans" which were little stickers for $5 (a mulligan could be used once per round to any of the questions your team didn't know the answer to. )
3 of the rounds were about bible questions but the other 7 were things like sports, food, Illinois history (I did not know that Walt Disney was born in Ill.) books, etc....

I am just sharing because I though some of you have scouts or other church groups that could do this for a fund raiser

by the way I was on a team and my girls were on another team (which had 8 people) and MY team got 2nd place!!

That sounds like fun! So you play it as a team, not as individuals? Were there any sort of prizes? or just bragging rights? How did the mulligan work, exactly?

they did have tiny trophies for a couple of bonus rounds! and they had prizes for the winning team.

Each team was given a folder with 10 pages with numbered lines 1-10 (for the answers) and at the top it had a line for the group to put the name of your team ( each team makes up a funny name)

there was one person that asked the questions (repeated if necessary) and there was one person that would check the answers and post the score on a white board..... (this gave everyone a chance between rounds to get more snacks or use the bathroom)

the Mulligan (a simple little sticker like a smile face or a star ) was purchased before a round of questions started for $5--- either by one very competitive person or pooled by team members the sticker (Mulligan) was then applied to your answer sheet if your team did not know the answer to a question and it would be counted as a right answer. Only one sticker could be used per round and if you didn't use it that round then it could be used in the next round

also in the folder was some scratch paper so that you could write down ideas of what the answers were and the other teams wouldn't hear.......

I talked about this at church today, and they said it sounded so fun they put me in charge of getting this together for our church! Could you help me out with some questions, maybe??? What would a bonus round be like? or how were bonus questions worked in? How was it scored?? What kind of prizes for the winning team??:lol:

LOL!! My daughter and her karate competition team placed in the Regionals and are headed to the Nationals in Florida this summer. We have been trying to come up with a fundraiser and I was thinking this sounds great... but they will probably want ME to plan it! So I'm going to pay close attention to this thread.

The Bible rounds ought to be pretty easy to write some questions for, but I'm gonna have to do some homework to come up with a Sports category! History no problem, State history fine. Books might be hard -- to get some everybody has a chance to know of. Maybe Food?? we are Baptists, after all, and we love food because we don't dance or drink (yeah, right!).

the bible catigores were "who am I" "where am I" and just basic facts.
Books: who is the girl's name in Charlet's Web........... bonus question, name of the pig in same book...... is one example

other topics: Cartoons, food, 70's, Science

the first food question was: marble, depression and fruit are all kinds of what______? (simple things but if you have a 2 part question you can count it as a bonus question.

the prizes for the winning team was a paper graduation hat, a pin or a sticker that said winner, some smarties candies and something else I forget. second place winners got small twix candies.....

Don't forget the food was really a big money maker too:
chips, home made cake, home made cookies, cans of soda, coffee, hot dogs, chili dogs, and what ever else you can sell that is quick and easy.....

1 person per table would write down the answer on the numbered lines (how ever many questions were in the round) then one person that checked the answers gathered the sheets from each table...... and would write the number of correct answers on the board next to the name of the groups..... so if all questions were correct and there were 10 questions the team would get a score of 10 (or how ever many they got right)

keep reminding people at the fundraiser what the money is going for and this incurages them to buy more food or spend more money on the mulligans.

also at the event I was at there was a table of all young boys and all young girls, each of those teams had an adult to help (probably 10 and up in age)
