I am looking at using My Fathers World for my DD who will start this coming year. She is already reading and adding/subtracting so I think I will skip the K curriculum and go on to 1st grade.

She is a very auditory processor - not listener but a talker, and kinesthetic... never. stops. moving!

So, I want to have lots of hands on options. Things where she can work with materials and talk through her learning.

Apologia Science almost killed us this year! She can't stop talking long enough for me to read. I had to do it only when she wasn't in the room!!! oye.

Does anyone have any experience with this program? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm not sure if I would skip the K program. I haven't used it myself, but they say that even if your child is reading, you should start with K if they are 5.

I read that too. She does hit the rest of the "is your child ready" list for grade 1. I am torn. I do like the K package, but I don't want to have to write my own Language Arts and Math. *sigh* It seems like a lot of programs are geared that way. DD did the K program from Lifepacs this year and did great.

I have also looked at Oakmedow and like them, but again I don't want to spend $300 on a program and then drop their LA and Math.

Well, I suppose you could give it a shot, and if it doesn't work then shelve it till next year. I'm very interested in MFW, and might give it a shot in the 2015-2016 school year. This coming year we are studying Canada.

We had a lot of fun with our Canada unit. I highly encourage road trips. ;)

Thanks for your input. I have a friend that did the K year, and I have emailed her to ask if she still has the teacher guide. I'll look through it and see if I think I can work with it. I do really like the units that they cover in the K set, and the reading list suits my DD. hmm...

I do have 2 other young ones coming up too, so I could probably re-use the manual.

I would really love to see the actual material as well. It would be very helpful in making the decision.

Road trips would be fun, but I'm not sure we will have the money to do it :( Maybe just some stuff here in Manitoba.

And I just noticed our kids are all born in the same years, except you have one more than me :)

We have done mfw kindergarten and first. My son was reading when we started K, and I'm convinced we could've skipped it without any problems. If you live near a Mardel, they carry both K and 1st in their stores that you can go look at.
