Anyone use Total Language Plus? I'm thinking of using it with my kiddos but would like opinions of people who have used it.

    Thanks!

We use it and LOVE it. Its literature based, christian based, and all inclusive. So we just have one work book for spelling, composition, grammar, comprehension, language arts, etc... so the boys only have one workbook for all these things, which is so nice, and it's cheap too, another plus. The work books cost $22 and the reading books are like $4-8. There are many books to choose from, including many classics. If you already have the reading book in your home, then you just need the work book. You can get through a work book in 3 months, but we choose to take about 6 - 7 months because we do a lot of the extra suggested activities, such as essays, research papers, and field trips. Those are all optional activities and we don't do all of them. My boys are going into 8th and 10th grades this year. The only thing is that the spelling words in the upper grades are extremely hard, words that I have never even heard of. So we get books from 6th to 8th grade levels and it works so well. I let the boys choose which books to get so they have their input. Some people don't like working on one book for so long, but its good for us and we love this program.

It's OK, but I prefer Prodigy Press. The "grammar" section is nothing more than copywork, for the most part. But they do have some nice guides. I've got some guides I'd be willing to sell.... I'd have to look and see which ones. I'm pretty sure I got the Bronze Bow, and Caddie Woodlawn.

Progeny Press is JUST a literature guide. TLP claims to have spelling and grammar and vocabulary. Spelling is fine (though you could just as easily do that on your own with ANY guide!), and like I said, the grammar is mostly copying paragraphs. (And I also have some Progeny guides I want to get rid of, too, lol!)

Thank you Jackie! I think I've decided to add PP to our Language Arts program(s) as a literacy component! Plus I just want my kids to love to read! So, thank you for the suggestion! I can't wait to get started on them!

I will warn you that Phillip didn't like either TLP or PP. "You KNOW I hate doing those!! Why can't you just let me read the book and be done with it?" But then, he'd say that about anything you did.
