What is your favorite language arts program for a 1st grader?

We have used sing, spell, read, and write with my ow 4th grader and for my kindergartner last year. I am not in love with it but don't hate it either. I would love some recommendations!

I really like CLE. All in one workbook (ten for the whole year), except for Reading, which is separate. It is quite affordable too.

We love Christian Light Education {CLE}! We've used it from 1st through 5th. Just getting ready to start 6th :)

There is not a complete L/A program I like for 1st grade.
That's because I want literature and phonics.

I broke down and finally purchased a rigorous phonics program this year after failing with Explode the Code and HOP. I really looked into All About Reading and Logic of English.

I actually prefer to do Literature and Phonics separately because I think children should be reading great books no matter what their level of reading. Teaching them apart allows for read alouds and the child working on their level.

We are doing How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons and Ambleside. I consider that complete for a 1st grader. We had tried Explode the Code and she HATED it. I'm not sure if it was the format or if she just wasn't ready yet.

Pretty sure I've decided on learning language arts through literature. It's all in one even literature using real books. Right now we do sing spell and our own literature. Thanks for the suggestions!
