We are just now considering homeschooling for our daughter who is going into the 7th grade. We have narrowed it down to BJU & Abeka. How important is "accreditation" before getting to 9th grade? Any opinions on if one curriculum is better than the other?

We have never used an accredited program and my daughter is doing fine. We have visited a few colleges and they do not care about the curriculum used, although some might. As to curriculum, we are not traditional. I mix, match, and make my own.

Personally, I like A Beka more than Bob Jones.

I think BJU is way better than Abeka, especially at the higher grade levels. Try to get your hands on the books and see for yourself.

Lol, ask and you will get a multitude of answers!!! Patty prefers BJU, and maybe prefers Abeka. And I wouldn't want to do either!

    "Accredited" means little to nothing.

I am not sure about middle school but I liked BJU better than Abeka on the high school level. That being said I go more along the Sonlight line along with Saxon (math) and Apologia (science). Accreditation is not a concern. If you are planning on sending your kids back to school then the schools will test them and colleges do not need accredited diplomas for admission. So really the only reason for accreditation is a false sense of security in my opinion.

We have never worried about accreditation and like the others, we mix and match.

We use BJU Heritage Studies and like it. I do not like their Grammar. Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 were good, but ds took that at our co-op, so I did not "teach" that. Their solutions are good.

Love Apologia science, Teaching textbooks for math, IEW for comp, and Easy Grammar.
