Just curious if we're the only ones who started school this week? We took 8 weeks off, and now we're back in full force. We'll take a 6 week winter break from Thanksgiving to New Year's.
We finished in the end of May. We're starting back on August 11th. That way we're in a good rhythm before we go on vacation.
We will start in Mid August I hope. I have to really get moving to get things in order. This has to be our best year ever. I have a 9th grader now and it is getting real.
6 week winter break sounds like a great idea! Plenty of time for holiday fun and visiting Any way that works for you...go for it. I used to call a vacation day anytime we had an opportunity to do something fun and interesting.
We're in school this week. We go year round. Definitely more relaxed during the summer, but doing it even loosely enables us to take more time off during the school year. Friends with kids in traditional school look at me like I'm torturing my poor child with "no summer", but it's not that way at all. If something comes up during a summer day, we pursue it rather than class. She had a week of a day camp too and has VBS coming up. But keeping at it prevents gaps with DD and I've noticed she's a LOT better behaved with structure! Hope everyone's having a great summer!
We stick to the normal school year only because my oldest kids are in public school. My ex won't let me homeschool them. It stinks for my little kids because they really miss school in the summer.
We school year round, with plenty of breaks throughout the year. Works well for us, because this is our first full year living in FL--it's HOT in the summer!! My kids would far rather sit inside with the AC and books, anyway.
We started our school year June 30th. We are going full force as we school year round. They get a week vacation every 4-6 weeks during the school year, plus 2-3 weeks a xmas, cause we take only 5 weeks off for summer vacation. It works well for us. Just when we start getting tired, we get a vacation. It keeps us fresh, and also allows us the vacation when it's not quite so crowded. It works well for us.
We are year roundish. We are more consistent and thorough in the winter but school at least a few days a week in the summer so that we can break whenever we want. Also the school year for our state begins on July 1. Our new material begins in full in September though.
Our year begins the first week of June. We take off Thanksgiving through the new year. This year, our holiday will be a bit different.
It was my intention to school all summer. Then we had a horrible winter. We have had such great weather this summer we have decided that playing outside with neighborhood friends and/or swimming with cousins and using as much imagination as possible is more important. We will begin our normal "curriculum" after Labor Day. If we want vacation throughout the year, we double up on schoolwork and make it happen.
I think we might start mid August. My kids are bored. S has been reading 4 or so hours a day for the library's summer reading program. I think once that is done we will start back in with school.
We will start mid August. We do kind of the PS schedule....but do take some of the different holidays off... We start about 2 wks before PS schools do here. We get our reviews done and into new stuff by time PS is starting!!!
Yes, we started a couple weeks ago, but slowly. Just wanting more flexibility during the school year!
We start beg of sept but usually seem to finish around mid July. We dont take as long of vacations as ps but I have multiple sclerosis so sometimes we have what we call mommy sick days where I just cant do it. Sometimes its a day sometimes a week. So we tend to go later because we have random days off. It works for us.
I'm so happy to see that I'm not alone in thinking about a loose year round approach!! This is our first year of homeschooling, and already we've had several "start" dates..lol...we had art camp one week... Then my cycle started and I got the plague (Bronchitis )...so the July 1st date didn't really kick off. Tomorrow is test another start day ... I've done a three week lesson plan for each kid...figured out the approximate time schedule ...we just have to DO it... But I'm so afraid for some reason ... Lol... Silly I know ... But it's the truth
We are year arounders too, but I think we do less per day than most. even my 9yr old is done by noon.
