I'm almost finished picking out our materials for the year! What a relief it will be to be done!! Has anyone used Mango for a foreign language? My oldest wants to learn Spanish and we kinda hate Rosetta Stone.

Oooh...why do you hate Rosetta Stone? Curious, as it was on my wishlist for Spanish. Going to have to look into Mango--never heard of it.

Once an oddball, always an oddball. I just heard from Elle at orientation....she's taking American Sign Language to satisfy her foreign language requirement! How cool is that?

Nothing oddball about it I'd say. Our middle daughter does sign lang as her foreign language too. :)

About Rosetta Stone- we feel that it does not present itself to mastery. It felt random, unstructured and generally not clear. Many love it. We do not.

Yeah...that's not weird--I did the same thing. Very practical.

A lot of libraries have some sort of free language program. If your local one does not, check your surrounding areas. And you can usually do them from home. It is in their e-services section. You often have to go in to get a card, but can do it from home after that.

The free mango for the library is not the same as if you buy a subscription for homeschooling. Sorry I just wanted you to know that. I had the library version it nice but now that we have the full version it pretty awesome. Mind you we have only had it a couple weeks but so far I like it and the girls enjoy using it.

I've heard of a program called duolingo. Anybody heard of/used it? I don't know about the Spanish, but I was told that the French is more like "college student street French" than what you would learn in a class.
