http://www.usnews.com/education/bes...cover-11-hot-college-majors-that-lead-to-jobs Interesting article! But as a lot of folks have pointed out....college isn't the only way to go! Consider this: http://www.businessinsider.com/best-jobs-of-the-future-2014-1?op=1 There will also be massive job growth for tradespeople, construction, sales, accounting, truck driving....tons of great paths for success. The big thing, though, is to work with our kids to have an end-goal that they're working toward that is realistic and will have JOBS available
I always told my son that I don't care what kind of job/career he chooses, he just needs to make sure it's a choice, not a "settle for". And whatever he chooses, just be the very best one he can possibly be, not "I could do this in my sleep".
I feel the need to comment. I see no Math major recommended in that article. You all should probably ignore it
Indeed...Math is alive and well! My bro-in-law had no problem getting a full scholarship to grad school for economics in recent history. He always tells the kids there are a ton of opportunities in Math.
I love how Life of Fred: Cats describes mathematicians! "What do mathematicians do? Have you ever seen a mathematician at work? Almost everyone has seen someone mopping a floor, digging a hole, or painting a building. You have seen dentists drilling, teachers teaching, and letter-carriers carrying letters. But not one adult in one hundred has ever seen what mathematicians really do. The secret is... they play. Mathematicians explore and discover. They explore the world of numbers and shapes. They discover new things that no one else has ever known."
