My ds16 is starting Senior Year in two weeks. We are using SOSEnglish 12, SOS civics/government I think... and the Financial Freedom University Edition for the three courses he will take. He only needs the first two but the thier will work as as Econ. The Private church School from last year is going to allow him to be under thier name as a home schooler and they will be keeping transcript , testing, he can go on field trips with them ( the do great fun and educational things at that school) and will be allowed to join in on anything , but does not have to attend school except for test days.

So about once a week or two we will go to school unless he wants PE or Art, or Band.

His plan is to do the full year in half a year, staying under the school name to receive a Scholarship of 5 thousand dollars. He will attend CC for the second semester taking some basic required college for a dollar a credit or less.

For those of you who have done the Community College and High school at the same time, how does that work out?

ALso for coming back home after being out a year is it hard to get them back to work as usual?
Thanks for any advice for returning, we knew this is what we were going to do but allowed ds to go out to school last year because of his best friends going to the private school, and Co ops not working out anymore as well as the ARt and PE being something he wanted to do and between the two I was going to have to drive him daily.

BTW it turned out good for three moms who needed a driver to the school, one who was from our home school co op.

There will be another post probably but I am going to be "baby sitting" a jr higher who home schools this year through a charter school.. her mom wants me to do that tutor thing another friend tried to et me to do before, ds reminded me I cannot legally do that as I am not an accredited teacher. Plus they need me to join their team of "vendors" as they call them now, so I am probably not going to be paid much at all for it, if I don't.
It sounded good at first but not so.

Anyway--- back to my Q-- Senior in High School -- how many hours should I be making him work?

Great plan for sr. year! I teach at a private school that does similar things for homeschoolers and I've had the privilege of coaching a couple. Really great way to do things. Wish that was more common when I was being homeschooled.

Hours worked should be unique to each student's work load and ability.

Different types of curriculum can create different work loads.

I would suggest that if your student is finishing work early, that he be focused on college and scholarship applications, or doing volunteer work, or paid for work. It's an election year so volunteering on local political campaigns would be a great way to enhance the government curriculum. I've having my AP Government students do that.

I would have to say "as long as it takes". If he's as invested in this plan as it sounds like, he'll have to be in charge of his own work - both schoolwork and job-work if he gets one.

    Many blessings, TM!

Thanks for the support! I am making ( allowing?) him fill out applications for near by places. I want him to get to work on his own some days as I will now be helping out another Home School mom with her middle schooler.
Funny how I get asked this all the time, I guess I did well with my own kids if people want me to teach their kids?
We offically start back next week. She starts today.

My ds will attend the private school first day, as we are getting his work through them, and we have not figured a fee yet for him nor how much interaction we are to have with them to keep the status of being there, but home schooling. The teacher I spoke with last year, who is also in charge of th High schoolers forgot all that we spoke about so things are up in the air.
