She's so happy there Just totally in her element. She's got an interview for a work-study job on Tuesday in the ecology and evolutionary biology lab, and an interview on Wednesday in a molecular biology lab. (both research assistant positions) I've been a wreck....crying over everything. LOL! But I'm so proud and so happy for her, too. Her roommates are very sweet girls...helped carry stuff to the room, helped set up her furniture. Nice kids, all of them. She keeps telling me....Mom, you know, I'm home for a month at Christmas and four months for the summer, and I'll be home for a few weekends, too...So I'm actually only living away for about half the year. Try to think of it like that. For whatever reason...thinking of it like that helps a lot
Maybe....how is your daughter's transition going? Is she happy with her new school? How are you holding up? I always thought I'd be one of those sensible moms who packs them off to college with pride...a rock of encouragement. Nope. I've been a nut. Crying over everything. I just found a piece of smoked salmon in the fridge that Elle asked me to get at the grocery store because she loves salmon with cream cheese and capers.....and I cried over the stupid salmon. LOL! How insane is that? Orphan salmon...your kid has left you. LOL! (I actually put it in the freezer because I cannot stand the idea of eating the now "sentimental" salmon) She texted me a few minutes ago that she's back at her dorm for the night...Love you Mom, hug Dad for me. And again...I cried. LOL....good gravy! I think it's gonna get easier...but for now, my pockets are stuffed with tissues. Overall...I'm really happy. On the surface, I'm a mess. How about you?
oh wow..if my college room looked like that I might have stayed in college! lol..it was more like closet..and they put two people in there! lol! I'm super glad she's having a great time!! I know it sucks for you tho...I can't imagine not having the kids at home..or around the corner where i can see them once a day! I know that day is coming but i'm not rushing it one little bit! lol
I'm doing a lot better. Elle and I got smartphones together this summer....so she's been sending me little videos all weekend The first night they had this big celebration with campus all lit up with lanterns and balloons and stuff. They had street performers and music, food, fireworks...a big party thrown by the university to keep the newbies away from the private parties. Elle had a blast. She sent me a video of the life science building today...they have an organic garden with little tags that read "please pick me and eat me when ripe"...all sorts of cool stuff growing in raised beds. There was a food festival downtown this weekend, too....lots of restaurants showcasing their food with free samples...live bands...fun stuff. So far she's played board games with neighbors, gone swing dancing, met a guy for lunch and found the place where she's interviewing tomorrow afternoon for work study. She bought her books and i-clicker, found a place downtown to get her hair cut when it needs it, and went on this weird bus tour of the city where the kids get free stuff from local businesses. She's having a blast! Misses us a little, too Calls home to say goodnight...which I love. Parents weekend is in three weeks. Looking really forward to that! I'm putting together a care package for her this week...not that she needs much, but after that first stressful week, figured it would be nice to get something from home. She needs gel bandaids for her feet....I guess all that walking is causing some blisters. Flavor to squirt in her water bottle...quarters for the laundry....hand cream...nail polish...candy...just stuff I know she likes. They fixed the dorm up really gorgeous...will post some more pics
Not every day you find a violin playing werewolf in your back yard Elle at the move-in afterglow party. http://s92.photobucket.com/user/Gillian_West/media/20140829_221017_zps44759a1a.jpg.html
Dorm after they they decorated http://s92.photobucket.com/user/Gillian_West/media/firstdayofschool017_zpsc03a42b2.jpg.html http://s92.photobucket.com/user/Gillian_West/media/firstdayofschool015_zpsf95a2590.jpg.html http://s92.photobucket.com/user/Gil...ayofschool011_zpsb282eeb9.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 After the pic, she put up a wall cling decoration of a huge cherry blossom tree...it looks terrific and makes her mono chrome bed look a little prettier. (no idea why the girl loves grey...bleh!) Some pillows with pink and grey and turquoise tie it together, too. Looks really cute in there now The beds are semi-lofted with their shelves and dresser drawers under there....makes the room even bigger. Don't know if you can tell...but the big black thing in the middle is a fouton! They're using it for a flat couch, spare bed, and a surface to play board games and stuff. If Elle's cousins spend the night...this way they have a bed Elle is crazy about her window...wants us to bring some of her plants to her and a bird feeder for the ledge outside.
Everything looks great. Try some stuff called mole skin..it's for blisters. I remember using it when I played bball.
