So far I like what I see. Its not cheap, but I have another student that will need it. My dd14 can work quite independantly and i can add backup. what I would have given for such a thing in school. having access to the workout for all problems is amazing. the instant grading is nice. my student likes it and has quidelines from me about when to request a do over on a given lesson or lessons before moving on. we have had interesting conversations about how HS classes are run, and how college classesz as well. She is amazed that anyone passes in PS if they leep marching forward and have no answer sets to know they understood the concepts. we talked about spending extra on solutions manuals in college math and science, if you are a good student, and how TT is like that in many ways. you have both on screen or paper textbook options, and could just enter answers all at once, or even grade manually. my student is using a spiral notebook as needed along the way and entering answers, for instant grading. this way i can look over her work when troubles occur.
Sounds like it's working well so far! I may be looking at that or something like it by the time DGS gets to that point, but he's only in 4th grade now. I was working with my hs student in Saxon, but I'm afraid it's been way too long since I did algebra to recall it as well as I need to.
Lindinia, I have a question about Saxon. I have decided to go with them for our middle and highschool math. Did you just buy the "kit" that has the student book and the tests and answers? I think that there are other things that you can buy as well.... though I'm not positive. OP- I'm glad that you're liking TT so much. If it weren't so expensive I might give it a go.
Yes, I have the student book, tests, and answers for each level from 54 through Alg 2. I've never gotten to use Algebra 2, though... For the upper levels I also have the Solutions Manual. There are two different cd programs to accompany them, but I don't have any of those. There are DIVE cds, and there are Teacher cds. I've heard Teacher cds are better, but I have not looked further into either - I just know they exist. DO look for the Homeschool versions. After John Saxon died and the company was sold, the new owners have been changing things. Their current public school editions are not necessarily what John Saxon envisioned. For example, they're putting out a whole new Geometry, where JS had planned that if you do Alg 1, Alg 2, and Adv Math, you'd get a complete Geometry -- so 4 credits in 3 years. You can have a choice to do either Math 87 OR Alg 1/2. If the student needs a bit more arithmetic, use 87. If not, use Alg 1/2. Both will get you to the same place in the end, just a slightly different focus on the way.
We are liking TT also. Dd is on Algebra 1 and I love that I can watch the lesson with her and help her. I am not a math person. I love that we can see the problem worked out if I can't explain it to her! I wish they had TT grammar.
We used MUS but I am interested in seeing how it goes as my younger student has had her older siblings use TT I think. That is the Yellow one right?
I think I am def going with TT next year for math! I didn't even know that was a thing! It should be an option for every available curriculum!
