If your husband wants accredited, which I can understand, maybe do traditional homeschool through 8th grade and then do something accredited for high school. Maybe that would make him more comfortable.

Very honestly...for K-8th "accredited" curriculum means less than nothing.

Save your money. Stop driving yourself crazy. Stop driving your kid crazy.

Get yourself a big 3rd grade Math workbook from Barnes and Noble....and stop at the library and get tons of free books and cool videos.

Read and write every day....and do a little math. Live life. Incorporate reading, writing and math....into everyday life.

    It's all they need.

The rest is smoke, mirrors, parental insecurity and marketing. (in my opinion)

Thank you so much everyone!!! This information has been so helpful to me, you guys have no idea! I feel so much better now and can better inform my husband on everything. I want my son to love learning not to dread it so we will definitely be switching and doing our own schooling. We have plenty of time until highschool rolls around which I planned on sending him back to school anyway for 9-12. At least I know now where the true problem is and what I need to do to fix it.

I would personally bring him back down a year in homeschool curricula it is basically 1 year ahead of ps!

    I would look into these-
    DiscoveryK12 as was suggested.
    allinonehomeschool.com
    amblesideonline.com
    oldfashionededucation.com

I'm doing a mixture of all of them. They are all free. Although I will be buying some real text books-like mc guffey's and ray's arithmetic, and we will supplement with khan academy. (again free). And maybe get a subscription to brain pop jr since my kids love it, and well we won't be spending much on all the other.

Right now we are doing 2nd grade... through the public school system, and using Calvert. To be quite honest with you. It has been AWESOME for us! BUT, that is because in the state I am, they don't really care what you do til 3rd grade, because up til then there is not compulsory schooling. lol So for my daughter and her grade level, they don't really care what she does or doesn't do, and they don't care how I teach it or don't teach it, etc etc. And it usually takes me less then 2 hours a day with 2nd grade-that includes about 30-45 minutes of Bible I add in myself-Bible reading, with activities to reflect and reinforce our days reading, etc. But, I'm afraid of next year coming when I know they will start wanting me to conform to state mandates etc... and I do want to be independent any way. BUT, it was a good start for us. I wouldn't of done well with one that was strict and only let us do what they want, etc. though. nope, not me! That's why we are bailing before that starts! lol haha But, it did give me the idea of what we were doing, with a really easy and ok curriculum (although I must say as well as I always thought I would love Calvert, which I started researching while actually preg with my oldest...I feel I will actually like the free ones better!). It gave me a idea of what I needed to do, and that it didn't have to be very much each day-K was only like 30 minutes a day (Again with our bible stuff added in!), grade 1, was about a hour a day. And now like I said usually less then 2 hours a day (in reality the Calvert part is usually less then 45 minutes a day!).

I would not expect to do more then 3 hours a day for 3rd grade! And we won't be!
