Hello - my daughter is 10 and started 5th grade. I have just started homeschooling. Our public school district offers a flex program where my DD goes to school once a week and we are doing K12 for the home portion. We do have a lot of support from teachers and the school. But I am still so uber nervous about taking this venture. My DD is a gymnast and we needed schooling that offered flexibility. I am trying to make a schedule for her so she knows when to get down to business while still providing positive reinforcement so she doesn't shut down. I wanted to give her a schedule so she knows what to expect everyday. Such as, today we will do 20 min and 40 min of that etc. I was wondering if anyone has a schedule like that. I could have sworn I saw something online, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.
Hi Gymommee. Best advice I can give is to talk to other moms of gymnasts who are homeschooling. See what works for them. See if your daughter's coaches can think of a few other kids who have been doing it a couple years and talk to the moms. It's scary to start homeschooling. Have had other moms describe it to me as "feeling like they were jumping off a cliff" with their kids. Just remember there's room for mistakes. There's room to figure it out as you go. There's room to find what works. You're gonna do great Just breathe, do your best to create a schedule that works for you...and revise as needed. It's really that simple.
Welcome to the forum. I'm rather new myself. I've been homeschooling one of my 3 kids since January 2014. It takes awhile to get into a groove, if you want a groove. We have a "planner" which each subject listed so I just write down page numbers and go week by week. You can order planners at Heppner's Legacy Homeschool out of Elk River, MN or just google School planners and that should help. I am not certain if this information helps or not.
