I would love some high school Spanish help. My son is 10th grade and he has done Spanish throughout his school years at our co-op until 8th grade. At that point, we didn't have teachers anymore so he did SOS for 2 years giving him 1 high school credit. Now, we are lost as he didn't like SOS and I tried to find other options but he just doesn't like anything. What I liked the look of most is around $80 so I'm hoping to find a cheaper option. Thoughts? How bad is it if we have a year off and tackle Spanish again next year? Does that look bad on the transcript? Thanks, Kellie
Hmmm....my daughter is taking spanish at a co-op this year and they're using Avancemos - which I think is a Harcort book? I know that the Holt Spanish Textbooks are online for free, I'll have to see if I can find the link. You might be able to search threads here. I downloaded it last year intending to use it. How conversive is he in spanish? Is he ready for Spanish 2?
We are thinking of trying Rosetta Stone, but not the homeschool version. We will use the full adult version. I've heard mixed things about this.
We are using the homeschool version of Rosetta Stone. I really like it. Vicki (my daughter) likes it also. This is her second year with it. She will also take it next year. It will give her three years of Spanish.
I know a few folks who have used Ellen Gerwitz for spanish. Here is a link to her distance learning and then she also has just a curriculum program too. http://honourofkings.com/?page_id=155
Thanks for your input! I was told by the SOS people that the curriculum I bought was good for only 1 credit. It's meant to be done in one year apparently but then the guy told me on the phone that it is a lot of material and really takes more than one year to get through so I could do it over 8th and 9th grade to get the 1 high school credit. My son did it 3 days a week for 2 school years and barely finished it in that time so it was a lot of material. Rosetta Stone is too pricey for us right now. I'll look into the other ideas. Thanks so much!!
We're looking at Avancemos! (McDougal Littell, 2006) for high school Spanish. A used copy of the text is less than $10 on amazon. There are 4 levels and web activities to go along with it. It got good reviews and looks like a solid program.
