Okay, in some regards, I have been the slacker homeschool mom. I have one in 9th this year and I have felt huge pressure about this being one of the 4 high school years that will count toward college. I was also worried about the whole writing thing. We have not done enough in that area and I was afraid that my student was perhaps way behind. When I found out that the local Homeschool co-op had creative writing and other writing classes as part of it, I knew it was meant to be. I just read the several page story that this student wrote, did not realize she typed so well either. I had only this year allowed her to have chat ability on a few online game sites and I had caused her to learn to type pretty quickly. I had not considered that benefit much. Any way the story is well written, with diologue that is properly quoted and will nice variations in sentence structure and lots of succinct but colorful descriptions of things in the story. Very Cool. The other one is doing fine also. They do not seem to have the big issues with writing that I had. Another load off. I was a bit worried that she would have problems with the group class and writing stuff that would be shared with others etc. I was worried that her first such efforts might end up being difficult for her to generate. This is just so cool. Now that she has opened up to writing more, and is doing well, it will not be hard to transition to research and reports and other types of writing. It was amazing that she popped a 5 page story into the word processor in about an hour. It needs some touch up, but it in there and the writing and grammar are reasonable on the first draft. There are mostly small mistakes like "then" and "than" being in the wrong place.
GREAT JOB!!! And you sit back and think, "Why was I so uptight?" LOL! Rachael was "easy", Faythe I was sure I had ruined her chances of ANYTHING. I can give you a gigantic list of what she "can't" do that I thought she SHOULD. So then she took her ACT test, and scored much higher than I anticipated. So I guess I did MUCH better than I thought I had! I'm trying to relax with Phillip as a result, but he sure doesn't make it easy for me !
