At a recent trade show, I happened to win a new Android tablet. Now, it's not fancy, and it's not a brand (Orbic) of which I had heard previously, but I really don't need it. Over the last several months, I've seen several threads about families represented here potentially buying a tablet, so let's have some fun.

Between now and the end of the month, post in this thread a limerick composed by your child about being homeschooled, together with your child's first name and age. If you have more than one child, feel free to have each compose a limerick. Please don't correct spelling, because it's only creativity that matters. The only other rule is that you must be a member of the Spot as of now (October 18). On October 31, I'll choose the best limerick and mail the tablet to the winner.

    BTW, I think it's this one: http://www.reliance.us/orbic/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_ID=1865

Lately, the Spot has been void of action
But Steve offers a luring attraction
    To a budding young Hamlet
    He’ll bestow a fine tablet
This should be an enjoyable distraction!

LOL! My kid's don't need a tablet, but limericks are great! What a nice and fun thing to do, Steve!

I wish! My personal tablet is indeed an iPad.

I read this to Phillip. He thought it was a great idea, but hasn't shown any initiative since, so it looks like he's not in the running. Sigh....

    Nice, Ochumgache!

If Jackie could twist Philip's arm,
(Turn of phrase - she would do him no harm)
He would have a good shot,
    Right here at the Spot,
Of learning she's his good luck charm.

(Why do so few words rhyme with arm?!)

My son is sometime quite lazy.
It really drives me quite crazy!!!
He likes to sit at his 'puter
    Ignoring his tutor
Until his brain is quite hazy!

(This is mine, not his, so it doesn't count. But he was greatly amused by it!)

My daughter is working on it. Hopefully she will get it finished by this weekend. I keep telling her to pull out our rhyming dictionary if she gets stuck and needs help but that would require walking over to the bookshelf which is apparently just takes too much effort.

Nice, e're'body. But my 9yo DGS is not the writing type and if he thought he'd have to write a poem of any description, he'd absolutely refuse.

LOL...love the 'puter/tutor rhyme, Jackie! Well, at least the adults are having fun with this...the kids just don't know what fun they're missing!

Yeah. Too bad they're not willing to work for it. (Phillip, btw, says he's still thinking on it. We'll see!)

Ok here is what my dd Abby (11) came up with:

School starts when I get up
Don't even have to dress up
    In my nightgown I learn,
In my heart I still yearn,
For a field trip to pick me up.

    Great job Abbie.

Rylee has been working on one, but she can't get the last rhyme. We just started learning lymericks for a Girl Scout badge. I'll post what she has in a bit.... maybe she can get the last rhyme before it's too late.

Type in "rhymes with ______" in a google search...she'll get a list of possibilities. Tell he she could always make up a word...it worked for Seus!
