Does anyone know if there is a virtual k12 program for Canada ? I've been searching and have only seen it for the higher grades. I have a kindergartner and 2nd grader.
Are you looking for K12 private schools (vs. the K12 tuition-free public school option)? I believe the K12 International Academy is open at all levels to Canadian students. It looks expensive, however. Purchasing K12 materials independently is much less expensive and offers greater flexibility re: grade levels for each course, etc. You won't be monitored by teachers going that route, which can be a plus or a minus depending on your viewpoint. I personally think it's a plus, but have encountered some folks that are more comfortable enrolling their kids in an online private school. Good luck finding what you're looking for!
Thanks hermione310 I have looked into the private school portion, but was looking for something tuition free. Ive only noticed virtual (tuition-free) high school in Canada! Im looking for the elementary grades.
That I know of, there's DiscoveryK12, which is not the same as or related to K-12, but it's free. There's easypeasy allinonehomeschool, which is also online and free, and time4learning which might have a subscription fee but not terribly much.
I have found most online courses here start at grade 5. I haven't found much for the lower grades. Some provinces have distance learning schools that can support your teaching even if you are not doing an online program. Heritage Christian Online School serves Alberta, BC and the Yukon. There may be something in your province - even a private school that would support you. One private school in our area lets you register your homeschooling through them, and then they give you access to their library and will invite you along on field trips. I kind of think they want to convince you to join their school though. Another way to find local resources is to look for provincial parent groups. Ontario has a group that puts together a conference every year. They would likely be able to connect you to other local resources. Keep digging! Hopefully you'll find something that works for you.
