Anyone have any tips for homeschooling an extrovert?

My oldest is a clear introvert, with some anxiety issues. Generally we keep our schedule fairly close to home.

Now my DD (almost 6), is clearly an extrovert. She desperately needs more buddies. The neighborhood girls are pretty dysfunctional. So, I'm trying to build in more play dates with other homeschoolers, but we're not making a lot of progress. She always wants to try a new activity, but right now she's committed to one that runs until the end of April. She desperately wants to quit and try something new, but DH is against it.

Anyone have tips? How do you keep your extroverts busy enough, while not sacrificing budget, or the sanity of the introverts in the home?

Co-op! It has been a life saver for us. You might also look at something like American Heritage Girls or Girl Scouts to give her some dedicated girl time.

Ms Chickie I agree! we had both as well we got to CO OP so intro could actually learn and extro could play, we did our own work at home but kept one day a week for co op just to fit the needs. One day was great! extro and intro are both thriving young adult and teen now!

Get a membership to some where children go-children's museum, science museum, etc... and go weekly. My extroverts love it!

I signed up with a distance learning school for next year. One that lets me still homeschool as usual, but a teacher will come and assess her work 3x per year. This school also has tons of field trip options and there are a few coops connected with them that are run by homeschool parents, but the school rents out space for the parents.

I think it sounds like a really good fit for her.

I've also discovered that if I let her be laid back, and work more when she is feeling creative and passionate, then the creativity and passion comes out more productively. If I push her to start at 9 am and sit in a desk, all I get is misdirected passion and all she gets is a good long time out. If you know what I mean...

I think I've got a right brained kid. The boys are very logical and methodical, so it's going to be an interesting homeschool journey with our strongly right brained, artistic, creative and passionate girl, right in the middle of all those boys. :)

    Thanks all!
