What is a good activity to "transition" into schooling each morning, so that everyone feels more like doing what they need to do? Thanks for all suggestions!

I wish I had the answer! LOL. Some days are better for us than others. I try and start with Bible study. It seems to put us all into an agreeable mood. Then it's not so hard to switch to a short spelling lesson and then it's off we go.

Yup we start with Bible study and a song (religious). It's been working for us for 3 years now.

The days that go best, we read aloud while eating breakfast. We take turns, and we have a rule about NOT putting food into your mouth right before your turn! We always read either from the Bible or a devotional type book, and usually we read something historical. This seems to help set the tone.

I wish I could come up with something similar for the afternoon :)

Thanks everybody for confirming! I guess it would tend to put everyone into a congenial mood.

Our day usually starts with me getting grandson up and encouraging him to eat breakfast while watching Paw Patrol, Veggie Tales, or Monster Truck Adventures. I'm usually checking in here, another board, then FB. I try to get started 8:30-ish but it's usually around 9-ish before we actually do.

When I had three kids to deal with, we also started with a praise song and prayer.

Good to know that this method is used by many.
