I just ordered Prima Latina from Memoria Press (introductory Latin).

For those of you that have used this with your kids, any tips for success? How many times per week do you teach the lessons (a few minutes per day vs. 3x/week, etc.)?

Appreciate any tips from seasoned homeschoolers!

    Thanks!

I used Prima Latina with my boys and we loved it! It's very easy to use and we learned a lot. We used it as written and did it 4x/week.

    Hope this helps.

    Blessings -

We are almost done with PL. We have had a great time with it. We did about half of the book without the teaching DVD and have done the last half with the DVD. If you have the DVD is is so simple just watch it and figure out what helps your kids memorize the vocab. We would watch the DVD day 1, workbook day 2, study words orally as needed.

When we didn't have the DVD we would listen to the cd, say the words together on day 1. Day 2 we would listen to the cd again, and the kids would do the page of work in the book ( we just had them copy from the book, no reason to write in in and buy multiples)
The rest of the week or how ever long it took to memorize the words and info, I would quiz them orally and have them say the prayer during our morning warm up. If it was difficult words or something wasn't sticking I would add the words to their daily spelling list. It is very simple to teach, and we don't spend but 10 minutes daily at the most on it during the week, except the day we watch the DVD.

It really is very simple. The hardest part for my kids was the grammar part, so we stopped for a while to do the English grammar then picked it back up again. My 6 yo who isn't officially doing the class knows a lot of Latin from playing in the same room.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

I didn't buy the DVD at first, but ended up getting it and am glad I did. DD seems to enjoy watching the lesson each week and it's comforting to have a "live" teacher as I don't have a background in Latin.

I discovered Quizlet and have created some games there based on the lesson's DD has completed. Best part -- it's free!

Didn't work for us, because my husband was all gun-ho about doing it with the kids, and he petered out. It was him, more than the curriculum. I do know that there's a lady teaching it at the co-op, and the kids in her class are loving it!
