In my hours and hours of research...one of the things I see coming up a lot is that parent that homeschools gets overwhelmed and burned out... What if there were an online course how to coach the parent that doesn't homeschool on how to get more involved in the homeschool process and coach them on specifics how to help mom be less overwhelmed. Would any of you go for it?
No, I wouldn't. I know for sure my dh wouldn't go for anything like that, either. He wouldn't be interested and wouldn't want to spend the money. A lot of the overwhelming feelings people get stem from time and money, and a course like this would cost both. Other feelings come from parenting skills, but that's outside the scope of what you're talking about - especially since parenting styles (even among homeschoolers) vary widely.
We're supposed to keep each other from getting burn-out. It's what support groups like this one are for.
No. I would not be in favor on spending money on something like that. The "other" parent in this household is as involved and active as he both wants and has time for. Besides, there are tons of places to get feedback for both the primary homeschooling parent and everyone else in the universe. If they're interested, there's no need to pay, and if they're not interested, then there's no reason to pay.
That is what I have my local hs group for. We do Mom's nights and other support events. There are lots of places on line now where folks can find support. There are fb groups for just about every type of homeschooler out there.
Burn out isn't isolated to homeschooling. It is part of parenthood, and it is something that every parent deals with at one point or another. There are some unnecessary things in life that cause extra stress. Then there are situations that are unavoidable. There is no program that can determine these things. They can give advise, but nothing more. In the end, the parent has to deal with each situation individually.
