Hello. I am new to this forum, but not to homeschooling. I have been homeschooling my son for 7 yrs. However, I am in need of a bit of help, as he has been diagnosed with ODD, and we suspect possible bipolar (oh, I hope we're wrong!) Anyway, lately we have been having trouble (tantrums & rages) so we stopped everything altogether until we see a psychologist for him - 3 weeks. I don't know what curriculum will work best anymore. We are with Seton homestudy school, but the work is so demanding and so much writing. He is almost 13, and as of now I'm feeling lost. Does anyone know of a curriculum that will work for us. He also has dysgraphia which makes writing almost unbearable.

Can he write? If he can write, I wouldn't worry about more of it... he could type, or orally tell you what you would like him to write. Not that he shouldn't write at all, but I wouldn't do a LOT of writing, and force too much. I would back off writing, and maybe just go back to the drawing board and find out what he is interested in, and start learning about it...

If writing wears him out, have him work out math problems in pencil (so they can be corrected) and everything else in ball-point pen or dry-erase marker (because they're smoother than pencil and don't wear out fine motor muscles as quickly). I have a son with delayed motor skills and ADD, so that's what his therapist recommended to us.
