i just received my first package of curriculum for fall, and I placed three more orders this evening. I can't go back now! I figured I should order anything I need from the US before our dollar drops even more :/. I'm hoping seeing all the great books come will get my girls excited about returning to homeschooling in fall
At this point we have an old MacBook that is dying, and DH and I each have a tablet. So online school is not really an option. I did look into Easy Peasy which is free, but again, we would need at least one new computer. That is just not happening right now. I'm excited to have our curriculum start coming in, to see all the great books we will be using. I'm going to need another bookshelf to add to our collection
All sorts! For Language Arts we are going to be using Language Lessons for Today, Writing Strands, Spelling You See, CLE Reading, and possibly Explode the Code for some extra phonics (that sounds like a lot when I type it all out!). Math is going to be Study Time Math for my older, Miquon for my second, and possibly Singapore Essential Math for my Kindergartener. For social studies my oldest wanted geography, so we will do Trail Guide to World Geography, as well as Beautiful Feet Geography. I am not totally sure on Science yet. I was thinking about the God's Design series, but I'm not set on that yet. My Kindergartener will do the Rod & Staff ABC series. For Bible I'm thinking of using Our 24 Family Ways. I feel like I'm forgetting something yet, but those are my plans so far. About half of the curriculum I either own, or has been ordered and is on the way. The rest I am going to get from a local homeschool book store to save on shipping, etc. Realistically, I'm sure some of this will get left, as we will have a new baby in the family as well.
Thanks! My hubby thinks I should just keep the older ones in school for another year, but I don't agree
I will say it is tough but so worth it! I have 6 kids from 20 down to 4 and I have homeschooled all the way through. Some days are tough but the benefits are innumerable. 2 graduated and 4 to go.
Have you homeschooled the entire time, from the beginning? This has been our only year of public school so far (grades 3 and 1), and while the girls enjoy it, I miss them. It also feels like the day is almost gone when they get home at 4.
We pulled sd out mid 9th grade and started dd homeschooling in 1st. If we could go back and do it again we would have homeschooled sd from the beginning of us getting married (sd was in 4th). As for science I really like the look of Dr. Wile's new program http://www.christianbook.com/science-in-the-beginning/jay-wile/pd/042455 We have used the Apologia elementary sciences and I really liked them too. I hope the kids get excited and that next year is great for you.
