Please say a prayer for me.. I'm really down right now. My heart is breaking because I feel like I made some MAJOR parental mistakes. Right now it's hard to celebrate with friends whose children are graduating next month and going off to college in the fall or who has gotten recognized in the National Honor Society. As much as I want to, it hurts. I wonder why mine didn't turn out like that. I know I'm not supposed to compare myself or my kids to others, but I can't help but wonder what it was that caused them to take a different route. And I'm concerned about their future. I wanted so much for them but my oldest dropped out of high school and my second born is following close behind him. No amount of urging and encouragement is enough to get him motivated. (((sigh))) today, I feel very, very ill-equipped to be a parent and I'm just flat out tired. I think of all the time I invested in their education homeschooling them and I feel like it was a total waste of time. I'm a bit angry too. Please pray for me.

Major hugs!!! I understand what you are feeling, it is normal. We all want the best for our kids and we hate to see them make poor choices with their education or anything else. It is one of the hardest parts of being a parent. Just keep loving them and praying for them remember we cannot see the big picture. There lives are not over and they are just taking a different path. It may not be the path you wanted, it may not be the easy path but God can use it. You laid a good foundation, planted seeds and sometimes those seeds just take longer to blossom (and sometimes need some harsh realities to kick start them too).

Sweetie, I've told you about my son. Well, it's taken time, but he's finally gradually coming around. He has a steady job, which is not the job he had envisioned when he was at home, but it's a job that could become a career. He's a committed family man, doing the best he can for his family, being the best parent and husband he can. And he's encouraging his older son to do the best he can at "grandma school" and learn all he can to prepare better for life than he did. Now if we can just get him back in church....

Thanks guys. I'm feeling a bit better today after bawling my eyes out off and on all night. Sorta feel silly about it now. I was talking to a friend of mine today(whose son is graduating next month and going off to college in the fall) about all of this. She smiled and said that maybe they are meant to go on a different path. That college isn't for everybody. And that it's going to be ok.. It was nice to talk to her and I know she was genuine with her answer.

gaining credentials in a skilled trade mixed with a little entrepreneurialism can put a young person way ahead of their 4 year degreed friends who end up with such large amounts of debt, and many of whom are unemployed.

Don't worry, you just have to learn to accept the choices that they make. They have much to learn from life and it is always good to give them a chance.Experience whether good or bad is always the best teacher.

My youngest son quit school the other day :( He had TWO math classes to finish and he was done. The school told him if they weren't done in THREE WEEKS he would loose all the credits he earned this year and would have to restart. He's in an alternative education program at the local high school so their rules are different than the regular public school rules. I joked and told him I would give him a homeschool diploma. He would never finish even then. BUT after I said that I thought: WHY NOT?? Why CAN'T he finish the two math classes as a homeschooler and graduate?? He was already doing self directed learning online with no teacher. He COULD do that still. I'm going to bring it up and see if he would be interested in finishing up. Texas laws would allow it. :)

I do hope everything works out fine by now. I'm also a mom and really wish the best for my children. Just pray and trust God. I'm sure He has a better plan. I pray too that all will end so well with you and the kids. Keep the good faith!

Prayers for you and your kids. Maybe you should have a heart-to-heart talk with them. Sometimes parents forget that communication should always be open to the whole family.
