I'll be moving to Canada next year, and i'm curious to how homeschooling is over there. I have heard that all testing is mandatory and that i have to follow the Ministry of Education curriculum. How true is that? I've been looking online, but haven't come across anything that really helps me!

I live in the Bahamas now, and homeschooling here is very easy. Trying to prepare myself now if it is very different!

I'm not sure about Ontario, but Manitoba is easy. There is no testing required. Just three forms per year to submit. At the beginning of the year you let them know what curriculum you are using, and then one progress report in January and one in June. The progress reports can be as simple as putting a check mark to say the child has progressed. Try googling Ontario homeschooling or something. I'm sure you should find something.

If your child has never attended any school in Ontario then you actually do not need to do anything at all. They can stay home and be homeschooled. There are NO testing or registration requirements for Ontario at all. If he has previously been registered with a school in Ontario, then all that is required as a letter of intent to homeschool sent to the school board for the last school he attended, and wait for their response, They cannot say NO. That is all I had to do. One letter of intent to the school board, a copy of the acknowledgement letter sent to the high school, and that's it. I just have to do this once a year. There is NO provision for homeschooling by way of financial money from Ontario - not like Alberta has. But basically for Ontario, homeschooling is very easy to start and do. You just have to pay for it all yourself. You can also do whatever curriculum or homeschooling style you choose.
