I have a 8 year old son who is just not getting reading. His dad is now forcing public school because, of it. Can anyone give me some suggestions to help him get it? We have tried Hooked on Phonics and Starfall. We are currently trying Teach Your Child to Read in 100 lessons. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe have his hearing and vision tested? I assume you do lots of reading aloud to him. Does he know the letter sounds? Leapfrog Letter factory is my favorite for teaching that. Keep reading to him. Read lots of Dr. Seuss type books, and follow with your finger. Use sticky notes and label everything. Dyslexia Games (dyslexiagames.com) might be something to look into as well.
