yeah - i'm back to it - it's a pirate family and an ultra-organized family. The pirate family has absolutely no rules. Looks like the other episode turned out ok - at least from the last 10 min. that I watched. But now I have to turn it off so I can get the kids in bed by 10pm so I can watch CSI Miami - I have my priorities ya know!

We watched it tonight. I thought the part where the dad built a car with the kids was cool. Sami saw that part and started asking when I'm gonna build one with her. LOL

There have been several of these with homeschoolers and the other mom always wants to put the kids in school. They always have to spend at least a day.

We are planning on rebuilding a car. My son (11) can't wait. But I want to wait til he his older, he would also want to drive it.

I think alot of people don't understand hs and even though I do watch the show (not tonight, working on garage sale stuff) this show does not do a good job of showing how hs works. But the thing is all hs is different because we are doing it for our childrens needs and not 100's of children.

yeah, it really didn't show anything about what HS actually is. At the same time I wouldn't have a problem with Sami being in PS for a week. I think she'd learn to appriciate what she has. ;)

For example tonight, the HS kids didn't want to go back to the publiuc school and they cried. The Public School kids didn't seem bothered by being home but the father threw a fit and made them go back. I thought it just made the dad look like a crybaby. lol

Yea, I agree with you all it was sad, I don't understand why they always have to make hs look so bad, like the kids have no life other then home. Wish they would show what a real hs is like.

Shows like Wife Swap though purposely get the most extreme people they can find for it. Average HSers wouldn't be extreme enough. I mean, seriously, this is a show that featured a family of PIRATES! Pirates with fleas no less.

well I have nothing againist them wanting to be Pirates. That is there life and if they want the fleas they can have them. not for me. But, again that is there life.
But, My Stars do they always have to make hs'ers look so bad like we do nothing and our children don't have a life outside the box. that is what I don't like.

What bothered me was the fact that the mom made a big deal out of their "1 hour" of work before they broke for lunch and that seemed to be the extent of their bookwork. I know that certain types of homeschooling are done differently ie. unschooling, but that jumped out at me. I didn't know whether to feel bad that that is how they school or for the mom who may be doing things differently but the show protrayed them differently.

I had the impression that they did an hour after lunch as well. maybe not.

I don't have anything in particular against pirates either, but how many pirates do you know? My point was that they purposely look for families not in the "norm". If they chose an average homeschooler the person wouldn't fit thier requirements for the show.

Why can't they choice a hs family that has it together and have the other family be the ones that need some help getting it together. Now that would be a good show.

I have a couple of questions.
Would you go on the show if asked?

And if you did would you make the kids hs or let them continue with ps?

I'm not sure if I would go on the show or not. Not sure about sharing my life with the world, I'm sure my hubby would not want to do it.

If I did I would have to think about hs other peoples children. I would want to bring God into their home if needed, but if the kids were doing well in ps then I would leave them in ps.

Just wondering what you guys would all do.

Since I'm not married, I don't qulify, but I think it'd be an interesting learning experience.

The show is only 2 weeks and one week is your rules so I'd definately HS them. I would do my best to make it the best school exp they ever had. I think even if the best place for a particular kid is at a public School it is very good for them to know what the other types of schooling are really like and in doing so develop an appriciation of it. I would have no problem with the other mom putting Sami in PS for a week for the same reasons. Sometimes you don't know what you have or don't have till you lose it.

My husband, 10 year old and I get a kick out of watching this show. To us it is hillarious!! They do always get totally extreme families and so I know that even if we wanted to be on the show we would never get chosen. Not that I want to be on the show. I think my family would be too open minded and willing to try the other families way of life - and that, I believe, is not what the producers want.

I think it is absurd that the homeshcool families are always portrayed in a bad light. That just makes those who already have no clue about what homeschooling is keep their minds closed to other ways of educating children beyond the public school system.

The pirates were just odd and would have been just as odd in regular clothes. And just as flea infested.
