Okay, I've got an unsupportive husband! I made the decision and continue to go against his will. But unless he plans on being the one to get her on a school bus and be home with her, I'll continue what I'm doing!

But about the time/hours spent, and how he reacts; in WA we need to put in 1000 hours. To be honest, I've not been real good at tracking the time, but I do have a seperate notebook for each subject and the work that gets done each day, so if asked (by dh or anyone else) what we do, I've got something to show for it.

DH also doesn't like the complaining, and tells me I'm not capable of teaching. I remind him that when she was in school she was dealing with migraines, severe eczema (which the dr said was stress induced) and never got her work done. She was a full year behind grade level in nearly every subject. End of the year evaluation since she's come home...and she's still a full year behind, but that means we haven't lost any ground ;)

Ironically, when he's home during the week (all too often, I assure you), he seems to enjoy having her around and is always thinking of things for the two of them to do. So despite his cantakerous attitude towards me and this decision I've made, there are positives. I'm going to send him to the Museum of Radio and Electricity with her soon. May even schedule a field trip with a few other homeschoolers that he can chaperone (hahahah!!!)

I'm sorry you don't have the support from you dh. But I think you are doing the right thing. If she was stressed at school and the support couldn't be found at school you had to do something. I truely believe if I wouldn't have pulled my son out of ps I would have lost him forever. He was so stressed he hated himself and didn't want to be on this earth anymore. And I know if we would have kept him in ps and if I didn't loss him to himself, he would have gotten into drugs or drinking. He would have been one of those kids that skipped out on school and gotten into the wrong crowd. I saw his future and I didn't feel it was good. I felt I had no choice. I needed to protect him and I knew I had a chance if he was with me to change his future.

I think getting you dh involved is a great idea. You keep doing what you are doing. Your a GREAT MOM!! My son is still behind grade level and he may always be. I don't know. But I know that he will grow to be a great Man, Husband and Dad. And its because of ME!!

Wishing you lots of Luck and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Personally, I feel that no woman should homeschool without her husband's OK. Now that doesn't mean he has to wholeheartedly support it, but if he is AGAINST it, then you are in rebellion to do it anyway. It has become something to divide you with, which is more dangerous than a child in a public school. Just my opinion!

Hey, Jackie, everyone is entitled to their opinion ;) I've told him if he wants to be the one to re-enroll her, so be it. But he hasn't. So in that respect...it's his decision

Thanks, Amy, for the prayers! The complaints are farther and fewer between the longer we do this.

    Sheepish,

I'm in WA state also, and I never saw the 1000 hours rule. I don't see it on my forms either. Where did you find the info.? I need to make sure I know what's what here. Thanks!

    Hi Deena,

I'm going to have to go back and see where I read that. I know that the Christian School ds went to always based their year on hours, not days (they ran 15 minutes longer than public school, and went fewer days), so I know that formal schools can base their's on hours.

Now you've got me wondering where exactly I did see that... :?

I have a 5th grader and a 3 year old. Dd10 does anywhere from 3.5 to 5 hours a day on actual book work just depending on how much time it takes her on each subject. We use the Charlotte Mason method and use the schedule for Year 5 on Amblesideonline. Dd3 has a workbook but we only do that when she asks to. With her we count things - she wants to count everything! She also has some computer games and board games and flash cards and we spend lots of time outside in the afternoon when my husband gets home. I use cooking or baking with both of them and they measure the ingrediants and heat the oven. Recently I taught my dd10 how to vacuum and do laundry - can I call that home economics? We also take lots of family camping trips and they love being in nature.

My husband hasn't questioned anything we've done. I guess he figures I know what I'm doing. (I hope I know what I'm doing!!)

Okay, according to my option, which is the private school one, I do not have to do school any number of days, but do have to keep attendance record.. this is new to me, it was 170 last time I looked! Wow! That is way leanient, Not that I would be leanient just cause I could me and Paul are good buddies ( bible ref there) But.. it does make me feel better on the days I feel we need a break from the daily grind!
Rather interesting thing is that people could really take advantage of that! how scarey!

    Thanks! :)
