We don't have TV (well, just for DVD's or videos) so I have never seen it. But I will tell you that from the title alone I know how they are after ratings  . I almost didn't click on the thread..... . Although, I have heard of it from www.onemillionmoms.com in an e-mail to take action for it's advertisers to pull their money from it when it first came out. I wouldn't doubt that I hear about it again from them now that the show included a homeschooling mom.....out of curiosity, was she a Christian and how was the homeschool issue portrayed?

    appeared to be a Christian

was very organized, well disciplined etc. They (hms mom)probably came across to the "non hsing" people to be too rigid, but compared to the "thing" that she swapped w/she was right on track!

I've never seen this show, either.
    ( What- and miss SpongeBob?)
How cozy do the women get in the new family?

One show I cannot stand is How Clean is Your House on Lifetime! UGH!!

You mean there's actually a show called "Wife Swap"? I can honestly say I didn't know that. We watch little-to-no TV that isn't PBS. As far as One Million Moms go, I use to be on their list. But then they put me on other lists, too, that were selling "conservative" junk. I couldn't be on OMM without being on the junk list, too, so I dropped both.

I've heard of Wife Swap and I've heard of Sponge Bob, but haven't watched either. I haven't heard of One Million Moms, though, what's that?

One show I do like is Extreme Makeover--Home Edition. That's the one where they find people who really need help with their homes and redo the homes! They send the people awy for one week, and in that 7 days, they totally redo the house! It's pretty cool---they've helped a LOT of really needy people! We watch it most Sunday nights---the only show we do watch!

And guess what? They just showed up (on Wednesday) at a house about 30 minutes from where we live! They're there until next Wednesday. The family they came to is a widow with 3 girls, and about a month ago their house burned to the ground, and they've been living in the shed since then! THey have 2 1/2 acres of property and have donated parts of it for Girl Scouts and groups like that to camp on. Anyway, they were sent to DisneyWorld for the week while these guys build them a new home! We are going over there today to see if we can see anything. I think that'll be a neat fieldtrip!

Wow, Jackie, I haven't had a problem with junk from OMM at all, and I don't have a junkmail filter on that account, either. Sorry to hear you had problems :( .

Deena, OneMillionMoms.com is a group of moms who have volunteered to be included in taking action to persuade companies and networks to be mindful of "family values" when airing their programs/commercials. Did you hear recently about all those companies who took their sponsorship away from Desparate Housewives? You're welcome!!!! :D :D :D The main area of concentration is companies who your average American uses their product, like Tyson and Lowe's. If Playboy were advertising, I don't think we'd bother sending them an e-mail  .

    Deena- you don't watch SpongeBob?!
He's funny, but now and then they slip something in I don't care for.
Small things in the big picture, I call it.
He and his friend Patrick Starfish were raising a baby clam.
At one scene it looks like they are sleeping together, like husband and wife.
The scene moves outward and really they are in bunk beds.
I didn't like how that looked, and that's a good example of what I don't like to see.

Becky, I am a Spongebob fan on my way out.....and would you believe that is the episode that really got to me, too?! We don't have stations to watch TV, but we have some videos. I've been somewhat convicted (which either you are convicted or you aren't...I was just trying to justify my liking an otherwise really funny cartoon) about Spongebob for a while.

In the same episode they portray Spongebob as the "mom" and Patrick as the "dad". Patrick won't help with the "baby" and claims to be at work all day. He keeps promising to give Spongebob a break when he gets home from "work" but never does. One night they have him come in at midnight with a lampshade on his head (and we all know that is to imply he has been out living it up). Then we find out that all Patrick was really doing all day was watching TV and eating donuts. All in all, a really bad portrayal of family life, even if there weren't homosexual overtones included.

Then, to top it off (golly, I shoulda just pm'd you, Becky  ) we were watching a preview online for the new Spongebob movie and there was one part where.....how can I put this delicately so as not to have my words become astericks?......it shows Patrick coming out of the sky without any clothes on and a pennant that says "Spongebob" attached to a stick and the stick is in between his bare cheeks (the set that isn't on your face). That is where I drew the line. My 8yo ds watched the preview with me and of course he is busting a gut laughing. I had to explain to him why we know that behavior is evil and what a scene in a cartoon could spark in a child's life. Anyway, we won't be watching the movie and Spongebob has gone on hiatus in our home.

When I was suffering from postpartum depression I couldn't watch the episode you're talking about, because I was living it!!
My husband didn't go out or any of that, but he was totally clueless about me needing a break.
Poor SpongeBob, the more tired he got, the madder I got!

Over at atoz they are discussing The Polar Express, and I asked if there was cussing or 'whatever' in it because Hollywood always slips crap like that in there.
According to one of the ladies, there isn't even unfinished ones in there, like 'son of a...'- you know, like they do on t.v.
With SpongeBob, I 'll let Jeanne watch it, but irritating episodes we'll skip once we identify them.
It's a shame, because for a cartoon it really was written well.

Brooke, you ever see the Fairly Odd Parents?
That's another funny one that I wish they would stop messing with.
There should be some kind of standard that must be adhered to.

When we go to my mom and dad's, my ds wants to veg out the whole time. I won't even go into the discussions that follow..... :?

I saw The Polar Express today and I must add that there was nothing that really offended me at all (and believe me, I am pretty sensitive to the "little things"). It was beautifully animated--looks incredibly like the book! We don't really "do" Santa here, but we don't avoid him as though he were evil. My kids look at him like a folktale in a warm way.

We always wanted our children to know the truth and have always told our children there was no Santa. We still watch the movies though - they are entertaining at Christmas. When my son was 5 we were shopping in a Dollar store and the checker asked him what he wanted from Santa - he matter of factly told her that Santa was not real and was just something people invented for the movies. Her jaw dropped and she didn't know what to say! I was very proud - I always want him to know that I will always tell him the truth. We do share traditional stories of St. Nick so they will know there are people that Santa was fashioned after.

About the wife swap - We love watching it even as a family. I was so proud of the HSM!!She kept her dignity and did not lose her cool at the end when they have to talk about their experience with the other couple. What a mom! And who doesn't love well behaved children! The other woman was totally disgusting - she needs to give her daughters what they need - discipline and respect for themselves. I told my husband they need to call this show Extreme Families instead.

Sabrina, my 4 yr old is like that!
They come off like they're helping these poor, misguided adults!
I also told my Jeannie the truth, and I also told her about St. Nicholas.
It did not go over nicely, although no one got too bent out of shape.

I do get antsy now that she's older, and now that soon santas will be everywhere.
I can see her telling some poor man in a suit he's just a fun character.

    Crystal,

Are you serious?!! 3 bedroom, 1 bath? Yikes! You deserve it!!! You know, with your youngest and that whole situation you could try to send in a tape. They say they get thousands of requests PER DAY, though, so it's like a lottery now-days! They only pick very high-need people, with very "special" circumstances. WIth so many requests coming in, they can afford to be very picky!

We did go see them on Friday. Preston was sooo nice to my 7-yo dd! Here are all these people clamoring to get his autograph, and he knelt down and talked to her, and laughed with her, and said he wouldn't sign his name for her until she signed her name for him! Then he wrote "you're beautiful" and signed his name. His rating in my eyes went up a LONG ways! Michael smiled constantly, and often waved and grinned and very much acknowledged the people that were there to watch. Paige is there also, and we saw her around but she never did autographs. Ty was running around like crazy, as usual, but stopped once to give autographs. So my kids got them from Ty, Michael and Preston. We got to see the buildings being demolished---way cool for my boys especially! We saw Ty running around with the little video camera while they were demolishing, making the thing for the family to see what's happening. It was really neat to be there and see that stuff!

It'll be neat to see the show when it comes out! We're going to tape it---just in case we're in it, and just because we were there so it has more meaning!

Anyway, Crystal, no way to find a bigger home somewhere, somehow? I'll pray for you!!!

Deena - That sounds so awesome!! What a neat experience for you all. :D

My husband is a college student with seven classes to go before graduation. We hope and pray after graduation he will get a high paid position and we can either build on or move. Until then we manage. Limited space does come with stress. We have triple bunkbeds in each of the kids rooms. Currently our garage is being transformed into a schoolroom and office. We purchased a shed to move the items that were in the garage.
The bedroom situation doesnt bother me as much as the ONE bathroom!! There is usually a line down the hall. I have had boys go out back more then once!

Brooke, I thought of you today and what we were saying about SpongeBob.
Jeannie has started saying 'I'm going to kill myself'
I asked here where she heard that word from and she said.... Charlie Brown.
Sure enough it's one of the Peanuts videos, and he's talking about Peppermint Patty's team beating his.
    What can you do?

Wowee. My ds has some behaviors that are more of a concern since OCD runs in my hubby's family. So when he is obsessing about a self-destructive idea, it is taken more seriously than your average kid. Once we started hs'ing again, we have seen a significant improvement in the way ds looks at himself and his obsessing is virtually non-existant, except he loves unique weapons and war themed stuff, which we are having to monitor closely now.

Anyway, thought I'd give you some background on why monitoring TV and stuff is so important to me. There are other concerns I have because I am a Christian and if I say "God's speed" to a show that is unrighteous, I might as well commit the sin myself.

    Polar Express and Santa

Polar Express is a great movie and doesn't cuss at all. There isn't anything in it bad unless Santa is bad. I think you need to let kids have fun when they can. This world limits it alot. My kids do not get confused about Christmas, Jesus, Santa. They know Santa is fun and Jesus was born at Christmas and died for us to go to Heaven.
