QUICK CALL PETA AND REPORT ME!! I ran over one of those awful huge 4 inch roaches with my car .. over and over again until I was positive it was dead. Venison is yummy. But I have only eaten it a few times.. not like I can get it at the grocery store. Some people get grossed out by my Peanut butter and syrup sandwiches. But the Weirdest (And 2nd Grossest) thing I've eaten was "Leaf Curry". I was in india and one day the cooks at the orphanage bring out this plate of... stuff... it smalled bad and looked bad. I kept asking what it was and they didn't know and english word for it... finally they point at the tree leaves and tell me it's leaf curry. I don't reccommend you try it. The 1st grossest thing (is grossest a word? 1st most gross sounds just as wrong to me) Was scrambled goose eggs with more grease over it than you'd put milk on cereal. Amazing what I'll eat just so as not to offend a cook.
My sister was in Cuba and they served malanga, not sure about the spelling, but it was cooked elephant ear bulbs. She said it was bad! Beth
My hubby's family will eat peanut butter and syrup on cornbread!!!! It is kinda of an aquired taste.....We eat deer regular, the hubby is a pretty good hunter. When we go to the casino, we get the fried alligator for the appitizer!!! But then again, in south louisiana, we will fry pretty much anything that moves!!! lol---by the way, if i can brag, when i cook deer, it tastes like the finest cuts of beef! Go me! Blessings, Shawna
elephan ear bulbs??? what the world?? who was the first to decide that that would be something worth trying? I had rattlesnake once - tasted like chicken!
Well, my boys eat waffles and pancakes with peanut butter and syrup, so I'm sure they'd be happy to have a peanut butter and syrup sandwiches lunch with you and Sami, Syele!
Yum! I always mix Peanut butter in my waffle batter... then we add butter and syrup to the waffles.. so that sounds really similar.
I don't think I would like anyone digging up my elephant ears to eat the bulbs but in Cuba food is not so plentiful. Pammie, my sister, said while she was there on one of her trips their hosts had very little food to feed them. People who lived out in the country would try to bring things to share with the host family to feed the Americans. They were such gracious and wonderful hosts. When they had a chance to send some people here for a visit we had a ball. They loved getting to go eat pizza. Our church has a sister church in Havana. All the visitors that came here were so nice and sweet. We loved them all. It is very hard for them to get to come visit. Beth
So I take it an elephant ear is a PLANT? I was thinking it was part of an elephant's ear. In that case, it's probably not as weird as we think! OK! I did a web check, and I found elephant ears. According to this one page, they have edible tubars.
Elephant ears are also fried bread that you can buy at fairs. They are covered with sugar and cinnamon. I didn't think that was what was being refered to, since it was elephant ear BULBS, and also because Elephant Ears are really quite good (though not at ALL good for you, lol!).
Hmm, toss up between snails, rattlesnake and alligator. I'm sorry to say that I've eaten horse, while living in France.
