This is an email I got today from a friend and fellow homeschooler. I thought it was very good and thought I would share with the rest of my hs friends... Hello Fellow Co-op Participants, It grieves my heart to hear about the third school shooting that has taken place in less than a week! In each case, there has been loss of life. As the wife of a public school teacher, this hits home for me- I am constantly pleading the blood of Jesus and God's protection for my husband's school. In the perceived "comfort" of our homeschooling lifestyles, please lets remember to stand in the gap for all children who innocently leave their homes everyday to pursue an education. It saddens me that there are children slipping into eternity who may not have eternal life abiding in them through Jesus Christ. Also, let's keep in mind that these types of killing rampages can happen anywhere- grocery stores, shopping malls, gas stations, churches, restaurants, etc. So, let's stay humble and avoid the mindset that says "That's what happens in public schools". The public school system is a mission field- we must see it as an opportunity to harvest souls that are being drawn by the Holy Spirit. There are still devoted Christian students, teachers and administrators who are planted in public schools who are being wtinesses of Christ. They may be few in number, but they do exist and it's God's responsibility to bring forth the fruit of their labors. The Lord has not forsaken public schools- He told us to go into all the world and preach the good news. Those kids need to see "living epistles" walking among them! God bless you all!
That is a beautiful reminder of why we are here. We have a job to do. Just because we homeschool we cannot forget about those who go to school. Sometimes my life can feel so isolated---homeschool, church, church friends, internet, homeschool, church, church, homeschool-----the circle goes on and on. Thanks for sharing. We always need a little reminder from time to time that we are blessed and that we are to pass that on.
Leslie, that is so true, and so sad. Yes, it can happen anywhere and anytime. The world is scary. I just keep asking why? We may never know.
I am the mother of a high school teacher and mother in law of a middle school teacher and coach. And many friends and other relatives teach also. Thanks for sharing. Beth
This is such a true heart letter, I have been going through looking at what my child IS missing at home, lately, knowingthat to be in our public school system is not an option I want my child still to be able to achieve any goal, sports or clubs that she and he would like to do. When all of the things happen in schools we tend to worry about what would happen if they were there, but then there is always the fact that but for the grace of God my children would be those children. Really makes you sit up and think, reading that email did for me at least.
