I figured some of you could use a good chuckle right now, I know quite a few of us are going through rough times right now. Yesterday my oldest dd came to pick up her dd so she can enjoy her on her days off. Shortly after she left my house she called. I thought maybe she forgot something important. She yells into the phone "Mama! You've got to get this one gas station right away, they are selling gas for $.99 a gallon!" I told her to look at the other side of the sign which then burst her bubble as it is really $1.99. I had to laugh at her and its nice that she is finally maturing enough that I can laugh at her and she can now laugh at her ownself. Turning 20 and having a baby can do that! I had noticed the sign earlier in the day when I had went to town. She had actually turned around and backtracked before she realized but it is still the best price in this area. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Jennifer
I saw gas for $2.05 yesterday. Keep those prices falling! We are trying to figure out how we are going to cut our heating bill this winter. Beth
Lately I've had her from about Mon or Tues through Sat depending on her schedule. She's trying to get her brother to watch the baby for the next two weeks. He is staying with her right now so he can get to school since he no longer has one after it burned up! I am loving having her as she is such a sponge and changing so fast!
On the note of money and hard times --- My dear daughter(6) when she was five really gave us a new perspective... she said we weren't broke, we have a dollar! She also says she is "dirty rich". As my friend says "She is a hoot!" to which she replies "Mommy, what's a hoot?" Sabrina
If I tell Sami I don't have enough money for something she says, "That's ok mom I will look under the couch cushions and in my room! I'll find lots of money that way!" We're with amy at 2.23 still.
Thanks for the chuckles, Jennifer! I like to remember amusing times, also. Here's one of mine: Our older ds delighted us with his curiosity & early understanding of words. Once, when I had just put the clothes into the dryer, he looked at me quizzically, as if to ask, "What's that sound?" I told him, "That's the dryer running." His eyes got real big. He was still pretty much a baby & wasn't speaking in complete sentences yet, but he repeated in astonishment, almost fear, "RUNNING?" Little ones are so literal! I tried other words like "working." Finally I found a suitable one, "functioning." Later that year, when he was helping his dad replace a light bulb that didn't work, I heard him exclaim, "'Doesn't FUNCTION!"
When my dd was 3, she came over to where I was. I could tell she had something very important to tell me. She said, "Mommy, I might live with you when I'm 20, but don't count on it, cuz ya never know!"
I love the functioning story. A few years ago I had to start saying we were going to make payments when we went to pay a bill or our son Bill got worried. He knows better now. I guess he thought we were paying for him or something. He is so funny sometimes. He still, at 17, doesn't like the idea that I might spend too much money on him. He says he doesn't want to waste all our money. He will sure spend his own though! Beth
Beth, he sounds like a wonderful son to have. that is so sweet. Alot of kids rather spend there parents money.
Kris, Bill can be a challenge sometimes but he is a sweet, loving person. He has an IQ of 67 but he gets along fairly well. His biggest social problem is not hugging everyone he sees. He never remembers to keep his hands to himself. Most of his friends are used to it and don't get upset. He also has loose muscle tone and can't be still. He sways, paces, shakes his head side to side and stuff like that. He stammers when he gets excited or upset and he talks way too fast. He loves school, our church, his youth group, tv, video games, and wrestling. I cried when his resource teacher told me she was going to teach him to read. This was several years ago and I didn't think it would ever happen. Now he is a very good reader. He has done some responsive reading at church and he has read youth reports at church. When he does, there is not many dry eyes in the church because everyone knows how far he has come since we got him at 2 years old. He has his moments when I want to pinch his head off but he is my boy. I forget sometimes that he is adopted. Once I told him he looked just like my Daddy and my older daughter laughed and said Mama that is not possible, he's adopted. Then she went to a class in college and they asked if anyone knew anybody who was adopted and she just sat there. Finally it hit her and she said oh yeah my brother! We still tease Katie about that. Beth
Beth, that is a wonderful story and so sweet. He sounds like loveable young man. My dh stepsister had a child kind of like that, love to hug everyone she could. But, she was so sweet.
Kids are so funny! I just love reading what kids say. Gas is at 2.05 here. I wish it was 1.98. Oh well, I never expected it to get under 2.50 ever again.
If Im saying I dont have any $$ Madison runs to her room and grabs her pennies/any change she has.. great story!!! We are at 2.25 in some areas, 2.15 in others yesterday I got gas for 1.98 with my speedyrewards points lol
Beth, did Bill get the job you hoped he would? Is it working well? I enjoy adoption stories, & I have one on myself! We adopted our first dc as infants, & they were "our own" from the first. They were 9 & 12 yo when we prayed about adopting older children. I caught myself wondering once if I would bond to children who came to us through adoption as easily as I had to "our own" children! Our hearts do funny & wonderful things!
We are still hoping the school will let the job at church count toward graduation hours but it can't start until we get it worked out with our church. We are still working on it and it looks good. Everything around here will be easier when we can finally get Crystal on her feet again. I have called the doctor several times today and the MRI results never came in about her ankle yet. If they aren't here tomorrow I am going to be pulling my hair out! Tomorrow will be two weeks since she fell and we were told it was just a sprain. It is still bruised and swollen. So frustrating! It really is funny how you forget your adopted kids are not your birth kids. I have to stop and think when I get asked for medical history for one of the kids. I always think about the little poem that ends with, you did not grow under my heart but in it. Beth
