Well, if any of you remember, my dd was having trouble with her multiplication facts. We tried everything to help her. Finally, she was frustrated and just asked to please go on to the next thing. So, hesitantly, I started her on division without much hope of succeeding. SURPRISE! She could do it and it actually helped her learn her mult. facts!

So...not to drag this on and on, she is supposed to take her final test in the 4th grade level this week and move on to the 5th grade level (she is in 4th grade)!! But, what I have decided to do is change to Saxon 54 math. I hae the book already with the teachers manuel. So, I figured why spend the money and this may be more challenging for her anyway!

I just wanted to share my great news. I am feeling rather proud right now! (but as hs mom's, we know how long that can last! ) LOL

That's great news Leslie! I bet dd's pleased also! :D Congratulations to you both, I hope the new endeavors work out well for you! Isn't it exciting to be the one that is around when your child "get's it"?!!!

We're just beginning to move on from our delay with learning mult. facts. My dd is doing much better now too, but the drill sheets were what helped her. I feel like she could use more time with the practicing, but she's ready to move on, so we have been the last week or so, and she's doing fine. Hopefully she continues to do well too! :)

Leslie that is fantastic!!! Isn't it wonderful to see the progress in your children?!?!

This is our first year homeschooling and last year in ps dd10 really struggled and barely passed math. This year she is soaring through Math-U-See and if she keeps moving at this pace she will be doing 6th grade math by January or February and she is in 5th grade.

I am so happy for your daughter. It is a major accomplishment for her and I hope she continues to soar!!

Faythe went from Horizons 3rd Grade last year to Saxon 54 this year. I was really concerned that it might be too much for her, going from a workbook format to a "real" book. But, like your daughter, she really surprised me! I think she really likes the change!

You might find the beginning there's lots that she "already" knows. If so, give her the first test. If she does well on it, give her the second. Then start her wherever her grades drop from the 90's into the 70's. You can sit back and tell her, "See how much you ALREADY KNOW!!!", lol! Saxon has so much review built in that it's easier that way.

I have taken your advice on that in our other math book, too. It really does make a big difference. That is partly why she is able to jump ahead now. She has been able to test out and move ahead.

    Thanks!!

Oh...the saxon math book we have used to be my dd's favorite cousins book! So she is SOOO excited to be using the same book! Even more incentive for her to do well in it! She wants to be like her cousin! LOL

Sorry! I don't mean to repeat myself, but I'm not always sure who I told what to. I think it must be that old memory again, lol!

That's great news Leslie. I hope she continues to do well. The muliplication facts will come the more she uses them.

Leslie, Wtg. I hope things are going good with the new book. It's so much fun to watch and see them grow and learn right in front of our eyes.

yes....welcome home! I missed you, too.

dd is doing great with the new math book. Her self-confidence has really grown, too. So that is great!

    Thanks for asking!

It is always great news to hear a child is succeding! My dd is better at division than multiplication. Actually she is fine at all of it until it comes to procedures. Ask her any story problem and she can tell you the answer. Ask her to explain how she got the answer and she can't explain it. lol.

It's crazy how we either just "get" math..or don't.

My dd is doing great with her math...but to put her on the spot and ask her out of the blue to solve a particular problem, she struggles. If I tell her to write it down and then show me the answer when she is done...she has no problem getting it. I think it is some kind of "performance" issue. ??? As long as she can do, that's the most important thing right now, I guess.

Ava Rose, That's why I struggle some with my older two and their math. I KNOW how to do it and what the answer should be, but I don't know the steps. I just know what the answer is! Thankfully dh is great at that, so I often have to let him take over!

My oldest is fairly advanced with his piano. When he plays I can tell him that a chord he played is not right. I have to say, "I don't know if it's a sharp or flat or what that you need to change, I just know it didn't sound right!" :) I can hear that it's wrong, but the steps to alleviate the wrongness (is that a word?) I do NOT know! But actually that's good, cuz he'll go back and find the problem on his own, then tell me what it was! So I learn also! :)

Deena, I do that with my girls' piano, too! I just know the chord's "wrong", and they need to check it!
