Here are two articles that made me think, "Why do people put up with this?"

This first one is about her kids in preschool.....
Accompanying your spawnling on field trips is also a very important parental responsibility. The teachers view field trip day as their "day off", and do not appreciate having to take your sticky, whining spawnling in their car. The pay back for this may ruin you spawnling's entire scholastic career, as the teacher then writes something negative on his/her "permanent academic record."

This next one talks about all the information that the public school system wanted. You would NOT believe the stuff this woan was told to give these people! And $10 says MOST people do not even question these forms!! WOW!
"The next portion of the form is an attempt to set the groundwork to blame the mother for the child's inability to excel academically."

Both are written by the same mom, who calls herself a "Real Mom". A-hem.....

    Enjoy.....

P.S. edited to give more information

The personal questions are what really get me. I had a friend in high school whose mother refused to put his social security number on any form that the school gave her. She believed that it was none of their business and that the SSN wasn't needed by the school district. She fought them tooth and nail on this and she never did give his SSN number to them.

She actually gave them only information that she deemed necessary - which wasn't much trust me. Come to think of it I don't know why she didn't homeschool her 5 kids.

    Good for her!

I think there is a law some where (I am claiming ignorance, today) that now says you can refuse to give your social security number to companies and that they have to give you an alternate identification number for their record keeping.

I know you have to give it to government officials. So does that mean that you have to give it to government sckrewels? Not sure.

    But good for her!

I enjoyed her articles very much!!! I found the questions asked by the Home Nurse after Phillip was born to be somewhat intrusive. It seems everyone feels they have a right to our information now-a-days!

These were supposed to be comical, right...? They're supposed to be funny..?? Jen, you sound like they're for real. Did I read them wrong?

I'm glad to see you, by the way. I was just wondering earlier today if you'd be coming back. Welcome home.

I read the articles as her being comical, true. But this just added to my feeling that people will put up with anything.

She mentions what she finds as the bad things about PS, and then just laughs them off. Things that would have many of us, I suspect, up in arms. I found that strange. Almost "Stepford Wife" strange. (But, hey. We all know my glasses are a freaky shade of purple! hahahA!)

It reminds me of my sister in law, who (After a 2 year old died, here in Houston after a visit to the Dentist who old the mother that she could not be with the baby - and who had to listen to her child scream for 10 minutes before she died.....), told me that the Dentist told her that she could nto be in the room with her son, and that it is not that uncommon.

Of course, I came out of my skin and said, if my husband can wear scrubs and sit next to my head with a family owned video camera taping my c-section, with my very early preemies.. then there is NO proceedure that I "HAVE" to be excluded from when it comes to my kids!

As the most over-protective parent in the family (Yes, she is actually more protective than me) she agreed and said, What was I thinking?!?"

So, when reading these areticles I was thinking the same thing. That it is strange the things people just "Allow" to happen to them. But, at least she questioned them, eh?

I always wondered what was up with the "Permanent record" threats in Elementary school. In fact, I've now began to wonder if such a thing even exists or if it's just something to scare kids and their parents with. LOL If it does exist it'd sure be fun to read all about the massive food fight I got in trouble for in the 6th grade.

I wouldn't have filled out that form either. Was the child fussy as an infant? Come on. what does that have to do with anything? DId you smoke while pregnant? What are they doing, Screening for CPS referrals?

I also wondered about how to take them. I only read the first one since I am a preschool teacher. The whole field trip comment kind of got under my skin. I require my parents to go on our field trips, not only so I am not responsibile and LIABLE if something were to happen to them (can you imagine taking 8 children all ages 2-4 ALONE somewhere?, think of the liability I would be facing) but to promote center unity. Some teachers may consider it a "day off", but when you have THAT MANY children in your care 50 hours a week, wouldn't you enjoy your day too? Please don't take this as I am upset, I am not, that comment in the article just got me a little peeved because too many people assume things before looking at things through the teachers eyes. I'm just a little touchy today too, which doesn't help.

Oh, BTW, love the second one! :) I'm also guessing this is a little sarcastic and exaggerated. I hardly doubt a few of those things would be on a K enterance form. Comical though, nonetheless.

I don't think that these articles are at all to be taken seriously. They certainly are not a convincing argument against public schools. At most, the second one mocks the bureaucracy. They could easily be tailored to apply to the mortgage loan process, fast food service, etc.
