Have any of you heard of these folks? A church near us is doing it. It's a ministry that started in Georgia and has spread.. Different food companies donate food (a LOT of it!!) to them, and they put it together in monthly "menus." It's meant to help just plain ol' ordinary people like us! Each month you pay $24 and you get a box of food that would have cost at least twice that much in the grocery store. It is meant to be enough to feed a family of four for a week, but it is going to take a lot longer than that for us to get through it! Here is November's menu:

    • 6 (4 oz) Hamburger Patties
    • 1 (2 lb) Sliced Turkey with Gravy
    • 4 (6 oz) Pork Chops
    • 1 (3 lb) Frying Chicken
    • 1 (7 oz) Amour Brown & Serve Sausage
    • 1 (3 lb) Bnls Sknls Chicken Breast
    • 1 (1 lb) Chicken Nuggets
    • 1 (8 oz) Cheeseburger Dinner
    • 1 (15 oz) Pork and Beans
    • 1 (7.5 oz) Mac & Cheese
    • 1 (24 oz) French Fries
    • 1 (16 oz) Peas and Carrots
    • 1 (15 oz) Sliced Pineapple
    • 1 (8 oz) Biscuit Mix
    • 1 (10 oz) Peanut Butter
    • 1 dozen eggs
    • 1 Dessert item

For an extra $18, you can also buy a "Special" package:
    • Steak Combo Box: 4 (8 oz) T Bone Steaks, 4 (8 oz) New York Strip Steaks
    • Bacon-Wrapped Beef Filets: 14 (4 oz) Bacon-Wrapped Beef Filets
    • Chicken Combo Box: 2 lbs Breast Fillets, 2 lbs Bnls Sknls Breasts, 6 lbs Tenders

You can check them out here and find out if any churches near you are involved: www.angelfoodministries.com

We just found out about it last month, so the October menu was the first one we have gotten. The food is very good! Our church is going to move into a new building in the spring and we are hoping to get this started there, too. Any food that is left over is donated to a food pantry or to families in need. Some people order extra boxes of food just to be donated.

It is huge here!. Lots of hs families take advantage of it. I say I'm going to every month but forget about it and miss the deadline.

Maybe I'll make it this month!

Maybe you could talk to your pastor/church about starting it in your area? It is a blessing! We have a church here in town that we go to for the Angel Food.

Yeah, this was brought up one other time, and I checked it out for WA state, but they have nothing!

We have a small church, in a Navy town---which means lots of changeover---so us starting something like that wouldn't work. But I think it's GREAT that some people are doing that----what a blessing!

I would love to see our church start something like this! We live in a big enough city to have more than one place available for ppl to sign up and get the food. It would also be a great outreach for our church (familiarize ppl w/ our church - give them an excuse to come in the building without actually going to church). Maybe I'll think/pray about this and pass on the info to our pastor/staff....hmmmmmmmm....got me thinkin' here... ;o)
