Has anyone ever heard of Among the Hidden? It is a series of books called Shadow Children??? It is by Margaret Peterson Hoddix. It was recommended to me but I never heard of it.
I've read it. And yes, it's part of the Shadow Children series. And, in my opinion, the best in the series. It's about a futuristic, dystopian society where people are only allowed two children. However, some families secretly have more "Shadow children". It talks about two of these shadow children who meet.
What ages are these books for. My daughter is 9 and in the 4th grade but is reading on a 6th grade level. I have been looking for a series of books to challenge her. Jeannie D.
Thanks Jordan. It sounds interesting. I will have to check it out. Jeannie, my dd is 8 and can read those Left Behind for kids books. I am not sure what level that is on. I think it may be 6th???? Maybe older? I can't say it was the easiest reading for her. So, that may be a series you could take a look at also.
Thanks Jackie. It was not recommended by someone that I trust as far as what she allows her child to read. So, I feel better knowing you allowed your daughter to read it. I will take a closer look than. lol. It is always nice to know if a book is "safe."
I think you probably ought to read it for yourself. Rachael's read them, but she's not too sure about them. I know I've quizzed her about them. Carl read them, and said they were "OK", but he's more lenient than I am. They are definately a more mature theme. The problem I've found with Rachael, especially when she was yuonger, was capable of reading at a higher level, but the content she wasn't old enough to deal with. Rachael has only read the first three, and then stopped. Left behind, on the other hand, she says she can give you a whole 5-paragraph essay on! She had to write about one of her favorite books or series.
I agree they are more maturely themed, and probably more enjoyable when you have some knowledge of dystopian fiction.
ds 9 is curently on book 2, ive read the whole series and i think they are fantastic, however ill hold off on introducing them to my 7 year old for a few more years.
thanks guys, I think I will read it first. It sounds pretty interesting to me. I often read chapter books to my kids at night before bed that can be a bit more mature. I have found myself playing editor at times. lol.
Yes thanks for all the info! I think I will do the same. I have ordered a couple off of amazon so I will read them first, and then decide if she is going to read them or not. I also ordered a couple of the sisters in time series. I have had those recommended to me by several people. I think she would like those. Jeannie D.
