My middle daughter is ten. She loves to read. She has outgrown the "baby" books--her words  but, she is to young for the "teen" books. Our local librarian is trying to help us out but, gosh I'm alittle shocked by the content of some of the newer books. She has read the older books like The Little House Series, and the C.S. Lewis series. Any ideas anyone? Thanks :D

I have heard people talk about the American Girl books. I don't know anything about them. I know I see them in our library all the time. My daughter is only 6.

The American Girl books are awesome and every library should carry them. I think they may say for ages 7 and up. my daughters are 4 and 11 and we use them for our read-alouds every night at bedtime. You daughter could definitely read them on her own and I'm sure she'd enjoy them.
My older daughter also enjoys the Illustrated Classics books- they are books that are based on old classics, but are written so kids can understand them, and have illustrations as well. These are hard-back books but are usually very cheap in bookstores- like 4 for $10 or something. She's enjoyed "Anne of Green Gables" , "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm", "The Secret Garden", etc.
There are several Christian book series out there that are excellent for this age group. You may want to check out Christianbook.com and do a search for books for that age. They have a ton and the prices are usually very reasonable.
    Hope this helps some.

I'm handing this to my ten-year-old Rachael......

Hello, ok, I like to read Mandie books, and the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series. I also like the Cooper Kids series by Frank Perreti and Left Behind books. I like the Westing Game, the House of Dies Drear, and The Bronze Bow. I also like The Wolves of Willowby Chase. I like Trailblazer books, and the Northwoods and Riverboat series by Lois Johnson. That is about it. Also books by Paul McCusker.

This is Jackie back! Get a copy of "Honey for a Child's Heart". It is an excellent book dealing with Children's Literature that is short and easy to read. It has an excellent bibliography in the back. I was given a copy of it years before I was even married, and now as a HS'er, believe it's one that should be part of every HS library!

My dd who is also ten has discovered more "Little House" books. They are written by Melissa Wiley. The first book, "Meet Martha" ..the little girl who would grow up to be Laura Ingalls Wilder's great-grandmother. It's 1788 and set in Scotland.
Our library has them and we/she can't wait to dig in and get reading. There is even a web site www.littlehousebooks.com.
My dd also loves the American Girl Series. Both series make a great history lesson.
    Happy reading...Tammy :D

    Mandie books are stll around?
I used to get those for my sister's daughter, Mandy, when she was about 10.
    She's 21 now.
