Has anyone heard of/used either Writing for Results or Smart Start for Language Arts? Here is the site http://books4results.com/ I'm looking for a writing curricululm for my 6yo (first grade). He wants to write stories, but he is flustrated by not being able to get his thoughts together. He has a journal that he works in when he feels like it and he often starts stories, but it seems as though he forgets what he wants to write in the process of trying to get it on paper. I know that his handwriting skills are slowing him down (that will improve in time) as well as his desire to have everything spelled correctly (I can't get him to spell phonetically). He also does copy work of his favorite books on his own. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've also looked at Writing Strands 1 and 2. Does anyone have input on those? Thanks
Mariann, I have Writing Strands 1, 2 and 3 if you have questions. II found the best way to encourage story writing is either recording them or typing while they dictate. Either way they can re-write them later. My son dictates while I type on the computer. Then we edit, print and he illustrates the story. Nest he makes his own book.
