I received this email today. HSLDA will now have a curriculum market: Dear HSLDA members and friends: Home School Legal Defense Association has launched a new site, HSLDA's Curriculum Market, for the sale of new and used curriculum and materials specifically related to homeschooling. HSLDA created this site in response to our members' concerns about the policies of other auction sites that do not allow the sale of teacher or instructor materials (e.g., anything with an answer key). The new site is at http://market.hslda.org . Anyone can sell materials on this site. You can sell through auctions, multiple item auctions, bartering, and fixed price sales. And if you have a lot to sell, you can upload the auction listings in bulk. Since we are offering this resource as a member benefit, only HSLDA members will be allowed to buy. This also helps ensure that teacher materials are being sold only to teachers. If you have items to sell, whether or not you are an HSLDA member, please join us as you will have a potential market of over 80,000 families. To set up an account, go to http://market.hslda.org and use the "register" link on the left-hand menu (under "membership"). If you are an HSLDA member, make sure you sign up as a member. HSLDA currently charges no fees for use of this site; all the profits will go to sellers. The same as other such sites, sellers will have profiles and the services they provide will be rated by their buyers. Our hope is that this service will be a blessing to you, allowing you to save money on curriculum purchases and recoup some of your costs by selling used curriculum. Sincerely J. Michael Smith, HSLDA President
I had just decided that my first paycheck from whatever new job I get will be to join the HSLDA.. that will be a nice perk!
That's what I do too. There are several places to get a discount code. The MOMYS list offers one, Sonlight offers one and I'm sure there are many other places as well.
I was waiting origionally until Sami reached mandatory school age so that we would qualify for the free membership someone here reccommended a few months ago. I may still try that sionce she will be 5 by the time I get to it.
O.k. can someone help me out, I'm a littel lost. I didn't know that you can make payments to join HSLDA. Where can I find that information and the information about being able to join free. I want to join, but the finances are very tight right now with just one of us working. Please give me more info. please. Thanks in advance.
momx3, I think this is what you are looking for. http://www.hslda.org/join/payment.asp God bless! Patty
When I filled out the registration from online, Iwas given the option of paying the entire fee or paying by the month. If you choose monthly, you will have to provide information to have it drafted every month. With the discount that I get from my umbrella school, it is $8 a month. As far as being able to join free, there is a link somewhere on HSLDA's site to that information. HSLDA is the parent company for the group that provides free membership. Someone else can probably provide you with that link.
Syele might be referring to The Home School Foundation. It is founded by Home School Legal Defense. They do grant scholarships to married people as well. A person needs to qualify of course. momx3, you might qualify. It is worth looking into. Good luck. http://www.homeschoolfoundation.org/
Yup I was referring to the Compassion Fund at Homeschoolfoundation.org. They have several seperate groups they help. Single parents, widows, children with special needs, and Emergencey help.
brand new auction site, althernative to Ebay and HSLDA's new site I received this same e-mail. Did you notice anyone can sell but you have to be a member to buy? I used to have a homeschool swap board, but it crashed and I never had time to rebuild it. I thought you all might want to know about my new site my husband was kind enough to build. It is an auction site geared toward homeschoolers. There are multiple categories besides just curricula, so anyone can buy and sell. You do not have to be homeschoolers, but being a homeschool family ourselves, we wanted to do this for the homeschool community. You must register to buy and sell, but we are committed to keeping transactions free of charges. The only charges you will incur from us are optional charges should you choose to have a featured or highlighted item and we are keeping these intentionally low as well. The auctions work in the same way as other auction sites you are familiar with, including the ability to set up your own store and conventional auction selling, as well as "buy now" options. Our site also offers the ability to place Wanted to Buy ads in all categories. As I said, this is a brand new site, so I need people to have a look at it and tell us what you think. Browse the categories and let us know if you think there is a need for additional categories that we have overlooked. We appreciate any and all input in this endeavor!! We also invite each and every one of you to start buying and selling with us, and please pass the word along to all your friends and family. We hope to be a blessing to the homeschool community and to maintain the highest standards in order that your experience with us will be rewarding!!
